Hi All

I love Mumsnet and all the brilliant discussions, but am getting totally lost with the the abbreviations, what s YANBU AIBU DH ds dd etc, some are obvious, but when people seem to start abbreviating most words I can actually read threads! Can some one help please-is it awful to say can we just use proper words and not the abbreviations? Its just so I can read and enjoy more threads :-)

YANBU - you are not being unreasonable

AIBU - Am i being unreasonable

DH - dear husband, dear son, dear daughter etc

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 27/08/2017 18:57

There's a whole list somewhere...

AdaColeman · 27/08/2017 18:59

Click on the drop down menu round button next to TALK at the top of the page, go to "acronyms" and all will be revealed.

Outnotdown · 27/08/2017 19:03

elephantoverthehill · 27/08/2017 19:16

TickleMcTickleFace · 27/08/2017 19:34

Outnotdown · 27/08/2017 19:35

Aaah, thanks elephant.

Coastalcommand · 27/08/2017 19:40

Why do we have to have the whole DS DM DD thing? Would anyone actually call them 'dear son'? Is this an Americanism? It sounds horribly twee, and by the time you've capped up the letters isn't much shorter than writing 'mum' or 'son' out properly.

MrsPussinBoots · 27/08/2017 19:45

TSSDNCOP
the secret service does not comment on procedure
Can't say I've ever seen this one!

IlovePeppa · 27/08/2017 19:46

I'm understanding the abbreviations now but what I can't seem to do is copy and paste what a PP has said or highlight their name to reply to them?

CockacidalManiac · 27/08/2017 19:47

I've never liked the 'd'h stuff. Always sounded twee to me too.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/08/2017 19:47

ODFOD - oh do fuck off dear
IYSWIM - if you see what I mean

NotTheFordType · 27/08/2017 19:49

ODOFD - oh do fuck off dear
An acronym that intrigued me on forums for survivors of sexual abuse was "BSD"
I was reading it as "bastard step dad"
but actually it mean "biological sperm donor" as in he's my biological father, but hasn't been a father to me

On my pc I use my mouse to scroll over the text I want to copy asnd paste, then use my right mouse button to copy it. I then paste it into a new reply.
I hope that makes some sense and helps.

IlovePeppa · 27/08/2017 19:56

Oh ok, I use my iPad so maybe that's why I can't do it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/08/2017 20:00

IIRC. If I remember correctly.
AFAIK. As far as I know
FOTTOSOFAWYGTFOSM. Fuck off to the other side of fuck off and when you get there fuck off some more.

Sunborn · 27/08/2017 20:16

I read STBXH as 'stab the bastard ex-husband' for years. I have no idea why.

Mollypolly2610 · 27/08/2017 20:21

What is MILF?

John4703 · 27/08/2017 20:21

IlovePeppa Sun 27-Aug-17 19:56:09 Oh ok, I use my iPad so maybe that's why I can't do it.
On my Samsung tablet I keep my finger on the post that I want to copy until I see two we arrows, I can then move them to select the text I want to copy and choose copy.
I then go to the reply and select "copy"
To get you reply in bold I put a before it and a after it. You need to do it for every paragraph.
I'm sure it is very similar on an Ipad.

elephantoverthehill · 27/08/2017 20:31

Mollypolly as you asked here FWIW I have never been described in this way Grin

Mollypolly2610 · 27/08/2017 20:56

HAHAHA elephant. I always wondered what that was and couldn't see it on here! Definitely not me although a fair description!
