"System outage in readiness for new banking legislation: We'll be carrying out work from 23:30 on Saturday 19 August until 15:30 on Sunday 20 August to align with new banking legislation. We’re sorry, you won’t be able to manage your account online, by phone or in the app, or use Pingit during this time. Payments into your account during this time will be added as soon as our work is finished."

I do ALL my banking online. Everything's in the savings account. I just whack it into the current account when I want to spend it. I'm meant to be doing the weekly shop! I can't even transfer to husband's current account with his bank.

Anyone else feeling like a right daft sod and scrounging around down the back of the couch? Grin

But it doesn't start until 11.30pm tonight

MsGameandWatching · 19/08/2017 16:31

Why can't you do the transfer now? Before 23.30 tonight.

MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:31

I tried to log in and a thing popped up. My Mam can't get in either.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 19/08/2017 16:32

I'm sure you can cope without online banking facilities for 15hrs or so.

MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:32

Reckon it's just everyone getting sorted and I'll get in later?

OP posts:
MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:33

I can't get in right now Barbara. We won't starve but we wanted to go do the weekly shop tonight and out tomorrow. If I can get in tonight we'll be right.

I need to sort my life out and have a contingency fund don't I Grin

Urgh few weeks ago my bank said their maintenance to online and mobile banking would be midnight til 6am. It was still down at 4pm, checked at 9pm and message then said be down 48 hours! Im disabled and owed someone £100 they needed and mobile or online was all i had access to.

PotteringAlong · 19/08/2017 16:34

I've had numerous texts and emails from them about this!

xTinkerhellx · 19/08/2017 16:34

I've just logged in and it's fine.

dementedpixie · 19/08/2017 16:34

Ring them?

sparechange · 19/08/2017 16:35

Barclays have been texting me about this for ages AND it's been a pop up message on online banking and the app for weeks

You can't rely on online banking that much if you haven't logged in for several weeks to see the warnings?

Moreisnnogedag · 19/08/2017 16:35

I've been able to log in now. Have you tried again?

dementedpixie · 19/08/2017 16:37

Is it not just a pop up message that you can then dismiss?

MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:37

I've had numerous texts and emails from them about this!

I dare say they don't have my up to date contact details.

I've had similar Almost but we'd already transferred money in readiness.

Sorry I was wrong, I couldn't get in and saw the message and had a panic! As per my Grin on the OP I was just laughing at myself being a daft sod, and I've made myself look a bigger one!

OP posts:
littlemisssweetness · 19/08/2017 16:44

Maybe now would also be a good time to update your contact details with them!

Slimthistime · 19/08/2017 16:44

OP what's the plan for when banks get hacked? Because it's going to happen.

specialsubject · 19/08/2017 16:46

I had a text about this last week.

It is a good idea for everyone to have at least two bank accounts with separate banking licenses.

MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:48

OP what's the plan for when banks get hacked?

Husband has his own account with a different bank. For this reason actually, hacks, run on the bank etc. I also like having my money separate from my debit card / online purchases so only put in what I need. His account is just empty right now because we bought a new fridge. I don't usually keep him in poverty.

I shall update my contact details, but not this weekend, looks like they're a bit busy. I'm in now. Off to Asda Waitrose!

Sorry for any panic caused.

Freshlysqueezed · 19/08/2017 16:52

Can't you just draw cash out and give to dh for the shop?

DonutCone · 19/08/2017 16:53

That's a really strange way to live. Why on earth would you not keep a float in your current account. What if your internet is down or you miss a train and need to buy another ticket. Why would anyone make their life so needlessly precarious?

MudGolum · 19/08/2017 16:57

That's a really strange way to live.

Really? I'm not living in a yurd covering myself in goat shite hoping the Asda gods will bestow groceries. I just don't leave a float in my current account, I use online and mobile banking.

What if your internet is down.

If my internet in my yurd is down I use my phone data.

I do need to sort out the contact details and my life. I can't find my fucking car keys and I'm sat here instead of shopping.

OP posts:
DonkeyOaty · 19/08/2017 17:00

Wossa yurd? #old

Farfromtheusual · 19/08/2017 17:04

Glad I saw this cos I haven't had anything from Barclays about this!! However, I can still log in and use online banking and Pingit.

MrTrebus · 19/08/2017 17:05

That is a strange way to live keeping everything in your savings. Maybe change to a current account that pays interest so you can at least keep some money in there and benefit from it, most current accounts now pay more interest than most savings accounts anyway (up to a smallish balance). Everyone should have a credit card for emergencies too. Ex banker Grin

ToothFairiesHaveNoChange · 19/08/2017 17:10

I've had the message every day for a month when I log in online on my laptop and mobile. It's across the top of the banking home page.
Im sure I'll cope going to the cashpoint and you know, going to the shops.
In fact Barclays have been doing loads of maintenance work recently over night .
