How do people lose weight so fast?

Inspired by another thread where the poster wrote "I lost 3 stone in 3 months". I get how to lose weight, but what methods are people using to lose that much that quickly? If I eat 1200 cals and burn 200-500 per day three times per week, I would still only lose 2lb per week. And be constantly exhausted.

I did that. To be honest, I did it stupidly. It has stayed off though. Callorie counting and a lot of walking, 8 miles or so a day. No more than 900 callories a day, preferably much less. I can't really recommend it, but it did work. I'm impatient, so I knew I'd give up after a couple of months if I tried doing utterly sensibly...

Annabelle4 · 16/08/2017 17:02

I did it in 4 months a few years ago and have kept it off.

It involved eating around 1200 calories a day, (all tracked on MFP) maybe 2,000 once a week on a cheat day, and daily exercise (usually hilly walks with baby in pram).

It fell off because I probably had been eating up to 3,000 calories a day.
The first half a stone comes very quickly, in less than 2 weeks I think. It's slower after that but still a noticeable loss each week

Lighter life or exante

Flossy1978 · 16/08/2017 17:18

If I eat so few calories my body goes into starvation mode and I can't lose any weight at all.

If you are exercising, you really should still eat of the calories burned.

ChainingDaisy · 16/08/2017 17:33

You loose weight. It just starts happening slower.

squoosh · 16/08/2017 17:34

Coke.

WineAndTiramisu · 16/08/2017 17:36

p90x programme plus the diet

Laiste · 16/08/2017 17:39

I've done it three times.

First was in the mid 90s - i counted calories obsessively and gave myself a mild ED. Only ate very little and only every other day. Only thing that bought me out of it was falling for DD3.

Second was on the atkins around 2003 i think. Weight fell off easily.

Last time was when i split from XH and lost my father at the same time and just didn't eat.

Gorgosparta · 16/08/2017 17:43

Its only impressive if they have done it in a healthy way AND managed to keep the weight off for years. Which rarley happens.

sirfredfredgeorge · 16/08/2017 17:44

The more overweight you are, the quicker you can lose, so it's often just the starting point.

Urubu · 16/08/2017 17:44

Not eating, drinking coffee and diet coke instead. Maybe one light meal a day, no sugar, no carbs.

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 16/08/2017 17:47

The only times I've lost weight really quickly was 1/ pneumonia 2/ falling in lust so heavily that I couldn't eat. Lost a stone in 3 weeks that way Shock

Waffles80 · 16/08/2017 18:25

I lost around two stone in the 12 weeks running up to my wedding. Went from a 12 to an 8 following the Dukan diet. It's not sustainable long-term, but it's very motivating because you lose quite quickly.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 16/08/2017 18:30

Its not safe or healthy to lose more than 2lb a week. The quicker you lose it the higher risk of stretch marks and loose skin too because youre changing your body faster than it can handle. I need to lose a good 5 stone and wish it could be done overnight, but its not feasible.

Chilver · 16/08/2017 18:32

I am doing low carb, low cal right now and have lost 11lbs in a month (the most I've managed to do in years!). I am being strict and exercising and I honestly don't know how people lose more in the same period, my body just won't do it!!! Its very frustrating :( I wish I could lose 3 stone in 3 months! Only another 2stone 9lbs for me to go.....

RebeccaCloud9 · 16/08/2017 18:45

I've lost 3.5 stone so far in just over 4 months post baby. Calorie counting using an app, massive plates of food but mostly salad or steamed veg alongside whatever else we're eating, laying off the cheese, using will power to avoid unhealthy snacks (Would quite happily have eaten at least a big aero in one go before), lots of walking and breast feeding.

Recording everything in the app is stopping me from being in denial as to what and how much I'm eating.

Auchan · 16/08/2017 19:15

I lost 8 stone in a little over a year doing low carb. My body was sick and I just needed to remove what was making it sick. Sugar, starch, grains and cereals.

reallyanotherone · 16/08/2017 19:17

Coke

Nah, amphetamines. Tried and tested in the 70's.

The only way i lose weight is to seriously calorie restrict. Any more than 600 cals a day and i stay the same.

WhereDoesThisRoadGo · 16/08/2017 20:08

Thanks for all your responses. It is as I thought - extreme measures that aren't necessarily sustainable. Although for some strong willed individuals perhaps they are.

Sadly mine is not baby weight so no breast feeding to help. It is just fat. Grin

Chilver - well done. It sounds like you are following a similar thing to me. Perhaps Auchan can be our inspiration.

*Annabelle" - nice work! I hope for a rapid first half stone then. 3 days in, so fingers crossed.

Thanks Where, good luck! I am tracking everything with MyFitnessPal (1200 calories) which helps. Thanks for the inspiration, Auchan!

goose1964 · 16/08/2017 22:57

Having gallstones, can hardly eat anything without feeling ill

MissAlabamaWhitman · 16/08/2017 23:00

Red bull, wine, cigarettes and shagging.

Not much else, also only works if you are young.
Otherwise you will be thin but look like shit.

BoysaDearyMe · 16/08/2017 23:21

What does 600 calories a ful oil like in meals - can anyone give me examples of what they'd eat in a day if following such a plan (sorry but I'm clueless re calorific content of food)

BoysaDearyMe · 16/08/2017 23:22

Sorry typo - 600 calories a day look like (not a ful oil)
