AIBU if I start cutting the grass at 8.30am?

Day out planned. Forecast is rain in the afternoon before we're back. Showers then for the rest of the week.

AIBU if I get the grass cut this morning? What time would be too early? (For reference, the estate is mainly older couples, but our direct neighbours are both away at the moment).

I think 8.30 would be the absolute earliest I'd want to do it but id try to aim for more like 9 if at all possible.

chocoshopoholic · 16/08/2017 07:44

I'd say fine on a weekday. If you'd hired a gardener to do it they would be starting about then.

pasturesgreen · 16/08/2017 07:45

Maybe not at the weekend, but fine on a weekday.

BitchyInnerMonologue · 16/08/2017 07:49

8.30 would be for the back grass (so not overlooked) and then 9 for the front which is more overlooked.

Good; that's me sorted - although the sky doesn't look promising right now! Confused

8 or 8.30 is FINE on a weekday.

TestTubeTeen · 16/08/2017 07:51

Get going at 8.

OrphanAccount · 16/08/2017 07:51

It's fine on a weekday.

JennyOnAPlate · 16/08/2017 07:51

8.30 is fine on a weekday.

ShotsFired · 16/08/2017 07:53

Mowing yes, strimming no. They have very different pitches and a mower is quite a nice gentle sound really. A strimmer is an annoying waspy noise.

RainbowDashian · 16/08/2017 07:54

Yes it's fine, wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

EBearhug · 16/08/2017 07:56

It's fine if the grass is actually dry by then. If it's not a sunny day,it probably won't be.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/08/2017 07:57

Do the front first, there's more noise already at front of houses with traffic going past etc, people shutting car doors

Ketchup123 · 16/08/2017 08:00

8.30 is fine on a weekday.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/08/2017 08:01

I'd say fine.

TheNaze73 · 16/08/2017 08:01

Go for it

Beerwench · 16/08/2017 08:06

Would say it's fine any day, from 8-8.30 onwards, don't understand those that say it's only OK weekdays - why? Not everyone automatically works mon-fri and has weekends off.......why is it only OK to wake others up Mon to Fri and not a weekend?

diddl · 16/08/2017 08:10

I would say 8am fine to start.

PearlyPinkNails · 16/08/2017 08:13

No around here people start at 9 any earlier is Not Appreciated Wink

ClaudiaWankleman · 16/08/2017 08:15

@Beerwench because the majority of people base their lives around a Monday - Friday busy period with a Saturday and Sunday rest time. If you are deviating from that then you need to accept that you are going to be out of step with others.

If we worked around shift/ weekend workers then we would never be able to do anything at any time, lest we wake up somebody.

OP, 8:30 is fine, 7:30 is fine, 7am is fine. If your neighbours were to throw a strop for being woken up once then they'd be the unreasonable ones. It'll probably get them out of bed anyway, do them a favour.

NewJourney · 16/08/2017 08:19

8:30 on a weekday is fine and weekend but my hubby thinks I am a cow doing it , I would even say 7am is fine - the council cut the verges from 7am here and no one batters an eyelid.

PestoSwimissimos · 16/08/2017 08:23

Yes! It's fine. When we had builders digging here, they were under strict instructions that they could only start digging at 8.30am, no earlier.

MaisyPops · 16/08/2017 08:25

Personally, I'd wait until 9 but I don't think anyone could be reasonably irritated if you did it at 830.

Timeywimey8 · 16/08/2017 08:26

Don't you have anything more interesting to do than mowing, like reading MN :) Priorities OP!

I think the time probably is ok - most people are on their way to work by then and are probably out of bed at least except teenagers on their school holidays.

stonecircle · 16/08/2017 08:27

I think 8.30's a bit early tbh

Beerwench · 16/08/2017 08:32

@claudia - just don't really understand if it's OK on a weds why it isn't on a Sunday, it's still the same time and especially in school hols there's a chance it's going to wake someone up or disturb someone whatever day of the week it is.
That said I don't think it's too early whatever the day of the week - it's just a bit confusing why in a society that runs pretty much 7 days a week now, the 'majority' will say one day is OK to start something early when another day at the same time is an absolute no.
And yes, as a shift worker for 30 years, trust me I get it, but it wouldn't bother me either way, if it were 8am on a sun or a weds, because it's the same time of day regardless.
