To kiss dogs and cats

I am a sucker for a sweet dog and cat and will usually stroke them in the street if I can, providing their owners say it's ok. I give good cuddles and snuggles, but I also like to kiss their forehead and tell them what a cutie they are.

Aibu to kiss random animals? The dogs don't seem to mind but do you think the owners think I'm odd?

I fuss other people's dogs all the time but I wouldn't go to kiss them. I work in a very dog friendly area and we have dogs come into the shop where I work all the time - I always give them a fuss and lots of them will happily jump on your lap for a cuddle!

I once took my cat to the vet and he kissed her loads! I thought it was a bit weird (especially if he kisses every single animal that he sees every day!), but it was also quite sweet! Not too sure on the hygiene of kissing random animals though.

I kiss my cats on the head. I stroke dogs and cats in the street. I wouldn't kiss someone else's dog or cat.

I'm surprised you haven't had your eyes scratched out by a random cat. I miss my own but wouldn't kiss one I didn't know because you don't know how they'll react

I'll admit to giving my cat the occasional kiss on the top of his head, but I don't kiss my dogs.

I wouldn't ever touch a random animal let alone kiss one. I learned my lesson the hard way as a child when I went to stroke a neighbour's cat and it attacked me.

I snuggle and kiss my cat all the time, the neighbours cat however only gets a pet. I'd definitely look like if I saw a random kissing my cat. I wouldn't stop you doing it, I guess I'd find it weirdly endearing if it were a regular thing.

I don't kiss stranger's dogs because they might not like it or be used to it. I kissed my own dogs, and dogs I know really well - ie the dogs of close friends and family members I see often and know.

I don't kiss cats because I don't have cats and I never pick other people's cats up; I wait for them to come to me if they want to.

I kiss my dog and kiss friends and family's cats and dogs, but not random ones, that would feel a bit weird.

Give them all huge kisses and cuddles. Life is too short, and the world is in a shit state, so carry on doing what you're doing. You're not hurting anyone, and the cats and dogs you've encountered seem to be happy, as do you, so why not?

That is a bit weird, sorry. I kiss my own cat, but he'd be freaked out if a stranger kissed him.

Yes, the owners likely think you're odd but they forgive you because they love their animals and as you seem to too, it validates their love.

Fwiw, I don't kiss my dog much, but then i am not much of a kisser and I don't want Campylobacter

I snog my pets all the time. Especially the dog, and one of the cats I love the smell of so I hold her and sniff her and kiss her for hours, and the chickens.

Don't think cats would WANT a stranger kissing them, though, so I wouldn't be kissing other people's. And I don't trust dogs so I wouldn't be putting my face near any I don't know vey, very well.

I snog my dog more than I snog my husband. He's a bulldog so has a very squashable kissable face and little wrinkly head that is just calling to be snogged.

I LOVE animals, it's been my one obsession hobby throughout my life. I've always had multiple pets, and I've worked with animals. But I think kissing random animals is weird.

I've always kissed my pets that tolerate it I can as I'm a very touchy feely person. When I worked with animals there were animals that I would kiss, but again there was a bond and trust there and it was part of showing affection. I kiss my parents dog on the top of his head, always give him a kiss before I leave. But again I have a bond with him and him with me....

Dunno, guess to me kissing is a sign of affection/care/love ie an actual relationship, not just another way of petting a random animal. I mean would you kiss someones cute baby? Just seems weird.
I'm trying to think of any people who have kissed my pets, I've always found it a little odd. I've had a few lovely vets who I/my pets have had relationships with (try dragging a dog away from the vets because they want to see their favourite vet!) who have allowed my pets to lick without an issue. That I think is sweet. Actively kissing my pets... just seems a little icky for some reason.

Yes. It's unfair doing it to strange animals as you've no idea if they like it or not. Many animals aren't used to or just don't enjoy that sort of contact.

It's also daft getting your face close to that if a strange animal as you've no idea how they're going to react.

I hug and kiss my own dogs but they really do enjoy the contact (it's easy enough to check whether is a dog is just tolerating something or if they actually want you to do it) and it's not something it would ever occur to me to do to random dogs I meet.

Ohh mixed response!

With cats I tend to judge them quite carefully, you can usually tell fairly early on whether they're up for a hold/cuddle and if they are, they're usually up for a kiss too!

I kiss my cat loads, but I wouldn't kiss a random one, and I'd never kiss a dog! Weirdly, the cat seems to kiss back; if you hold your face out and make kiss noises she often licks you and loves trying to stick her tongue in your mouth (I draw the line at that)!

I kiss my own dog, but the only other dogs I kiss are those who belong to people I know pretty well, whose dogs already love me.

Even when I had cats of my own, I never kissed them. Cats just don't seem so kissable, somehow.

(Should perhaps add that I only kiss dogs on the top of their heads - no tongues or anything. That would be ewww..)

I kiss my own cat and dog probably too frequently a friend of mine said to me recently 'oh you're going to have to wash your mouth now' after I kissed my cat on the way out of the house. I just gave her this look. We are farmers and regularly covered in shit. 'Germs' from kissing a cat is the least of my worries. To be fair, she also said 'oh I really want to stroke your dog again, but I've only just washed my hands'

I do also kiss dogs I know. I'm not sure I'd kiss a dog I didnt know. I will also kiss cats at friends' houses, but I don't know if I'd kiss a cat in the street.... (I probably would)

He'd like it though. He loves women in general and especially the ones who kiss and hug.

The mere sight of an animal immediately puts me in a good mood! I absolutely love them. However I wouldn't kids anyone else's pet... My own cat gets lots of kisses though - she is a very affectionate little thing and loves it and 'head butts' my face back
