C4 reporting Bannon actually resigned on Aug 7th!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 18/08/2017 19:42

Well it may all be smoke and mirrors re Bannon's exit but I, for one, am having a large Wine tonight.
Cheers, Steve! See ya - wouldn't want to be ya!

InigoTaran · 18/08/2017 19:43

Ha those pics remind me of Ricky Gervais! He was a looked in his youth too...

cozietoesie · 18/08/2017 19:51

Keep an eye on the Mercers. Smile

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/08/2017 19:52

Really Inigo? Lordy!

7Days · 18/08/2017 19:55

Where did it all go wrong, Steve, eh?

Slimthistime · 18/08/2017 19:56

oh yes, what happened to Claig?

Yes, Trump is kind of testing his "I could shoot someone and they'd still vote for me" theory.

honestly, it makes me wonder if even I could try to be some kind of sociopathic leader....

thedcbrokemybank · 18/08/2017 20:04

I think Murdoch made Trump fire Bannon. Scary shit in itself.

cozietoesie · 18/08/2017 20:08

thedc

I think you're seeing a power struggle for the control of the Murdoch empire. Wink

PerkingFaintly · 18/08/2017 20:15

Yes, keep an eye on the Mercers, and on Stephen Miller who's still in place.

Bannon's interest in "toppling the elites" is of course just code for "replacing other people with me and my elite".

The Mercers have been bankrolling him for a while, at the very least through his salary at Breitbart.

BiglyBadgers · 18/08/2017 20:21

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Bannon did resign.

Bannon knows that Trump is on the way out and staying in the White House isn't going to do Bannon any favours. He is jumping ship and will now head back to Breitbart where he will start attacking his previous boss. This gets him out of ground zero when the shit really starts hitting the fan for Trump and gets him riding the crest of the great backlash, which he hopes will stop anything too bad sticking to him.

He will now sit back and enjoy the show while Trump collapses. I have no doubt at all that he would sell everything he knows about Trump and his dealings to the FBI it means him getting away free. I have an annoying feeling he will wriggle out of this with barely a scrape.

lionheart · 18/08/2017 20:33

Unless the stories about resignation are right and they just kept quiet about it in case they needed to save the spectacle for a day such as this.

cozietoesie · 18/08/2017 20:46

We only see the stuff you skim off a pot of soup. The rest of it is roiling underneath.

Who can tell?

orlantina · 18/08/2017 20:48

From Fox

insider.foxnews.com/2017/08/18/bret-baier-steve-bannon-removed-trump-white-house-bad-week-administration

The removal of Steve Bannon from the White House caps off President Trump's worst week in office, according to Bret Baier.

On "Happening Now," Baier said that Bannon, who served as Trump's chief strategist, was long expected to be the next member of the administration to go.

"This was something that had been brewing for some time," he said. "But it facilitated itself this week."

He pointed out that Trump's chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, press secretary, national security adviser and communications director have all resigned or been removed from their positions in just the first six months of his administration.

Bannon's last day in the White House comes at the end of a week in which Trump took heavy criticism for his response to last weekend's Charlottesville violence, in which a counter-protester was killed at a white nationalist rally.

lionheart · 18/08/2017 20:55

Yes, and this soup was particularly revolting right from the start.

Some of the other doings this week.

Good for Politico for keeping its eye on the ball.

Donald Trump senior strategist Steven Bannon resigns citing need to spend more time with his family, his cocaine, and his Thunderbird Wine.

I thought this must be a spoof account but apparently not!

InigoTaran · 18/08/2017 21:13

So I'm confused, did Bannon resign or was he pushed?

lionheart · 18/08/2017 21:13

On CNN just now.

Maggie Haberman: 'If you read the comments section on Breitbart as I do from time to time..'

Anderson Cooper (incredulous): 'Why would you do that?'

Haberman: 'Because sometimes you have to stare into the abyss.'

lionheart · 18/08/2017 21:15

Reports that he had agreed to leave by August 14th but they held off because of Charlottesville.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/08/2017 21:29

When my son told me about Bannon, did I go to CNN for confirmation? To MSNBC? To the NYT? No, I came straight here for confirmation. LOL!

I'm breaking out the Champers to go with the gin and Ribena!

DS2 says he's a bit sad because he liked the thought of Bannon hanging on to Scrotus like a dingleberry. Or vice versa.

cozietoesie · 18/08/2017 21:43

I think it is a spoof account, thedc. (I only say 'think' because I don't run it.) It's good though. Grin

nauticant · 18/08/2017 21:43

This gets him out of ground zero when the shit really starts hitting the fan for Trump

It's not that dissimilar to Murdoch. Who cares what the political views are (within an acceptable range)? The important thing is to be on the winning side when the ball stops.

I think Trump's game over the past couple of years has been to become leader of the left behind/dispossessed/unfocused anger. Bannon was on board with that, particularly in a power behind the throne role, but now Trump is turning out to be more incompetent and lazy than anyone could have imagined, the constituency is up for grabs, and is best grabbed by a holder of the torch marching out of the White House in pursuit of the true path.

SanFranBear · 18/08/2017 21:44

Given this was only two days ago, seems odd that Bannon has now gone.

I have to love the line 'Trump feels regret as often as he feels Melania's touch' Grin
