Says it all, massive cuts in NHS funding, while Hunt has installed a £44k shower in his office so he can be fresh after cycling to work.

So these people can put claims in for basically whatever they like, in the meantime people that desperately need home conversions due to their disabilities can't.

Ceto · 14/08/2017 07:27

It's somehow totally in character that Hunt thinks he's too grand to share showers with underlings in his own department. I wonder what happens if or when he moves to another ministry - do we get to spend another £44K there to keep him happy?

highinthesky · 14/08/2017 07:28

If using the showers already available is so distasteful, he could get a bucket, sponge and shower gel from the Poundshop and use the hot water in the gents. Total cost: £3. Efficiency saving: £43,997.

SeaWitchly · 14/08/2017 07:30

The hypocricy is astounding.

But don't worry, apparently Jacob Rees-Moggs will be replacing Theresa May as Tory leader and he is a man with the common touch who has compassion and understanding for those less fortunate than himself and does not take from the public purse for his own comfort and convenience Hmm [sarcasm alert]

ILoveMillhousesDad · 14/08/2017 07:32

Makes me sick to my stomach Angry

NipInTheAir · 14/08/2017 07:32

There's no evidence that Jeremy Hunt has requested this. It sounds like a commercial office redevelopment.

Anyone remember Charlie Faulkner's wallpaper?

LakieLady · 14/08/2017 07:32

Meanwhile, in other news, a client of mine is forced to use a commode in her living room because she has been unable to use the stairs in her house since she had a stroke in January.

She has to ask her kids to leave the room when she needs a piss, ffs, and the council seem to be doing fuck all about getting her suitable accommodation.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 14/08/2017 07:33

Do you have a link that isn't pay-per-view?

No worries - found one - with twitter shots from Hunt claiming the story isn't true - its a departmental refurb, not a private shower at all.

I wish people would do the minimum of research before regurgitating a pack of lies.

The health minister responded on social media when the story broke last night.
He tweeted: ‘Today’s @thesun story totally false. TRUE I requested shower for long dist cyclists in new dept health offices (as in current office)...
‘FALSE it was for my own use. My cycle 2work only 10 mins so no need 2 ‘freshen up’ as story elegantly says. But let’s encourage cyclists!’
A Department of Health spokesperson said: ‘The Health Secretary has not approved any costs relating to the department’s new building, but has requested facilities for all cyclists and runners in line with those the department currently has.’

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/08/2017 07:34

Shock. Outrageous. Jacob Rees-Moggs that's all we need. I think he's even worse than her.

SeaWitchly · 14/08/2017 07:34

Just when you think the Tories couldn't possibly get any worse along comes Jeremy Hunt [or Boris Johnson or Michael Gove or Gavin Barwell or Damian Green or Priti Patel] to prove you wrong.

The80sweregreat · 14/08/2017 07:39

There was a discussion on LBC about JRM - someone phoned in and said that he doesnt claim as many expenses as the others do apparently. the presenter said that he has claimed for his horses in the past. tells me everything i need to know about the Mogg.
There was a lot of support for him however. I was amazed.
As for Hunt - words fail me really. Why cant a B and Q or Wickes shower do the job? ( still too much money in my opinion, but a bit more acceptable)

Bemusedandpuzzled · 14/08/2017 07:44

What an arsehole that man is.

JanetLeCarre · 14/08/2017 07:49

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

It's not true.

viques · 14/08/2017 08:03

Hunt could be in a shower for an hour and still come out a stinker.

Peregrina · 14/08/2017 08:06

So it's not true. It doesn't alter the fact that MPs only cleaned up their act on expenses when they were forced to do so. Doesn't alter the fact that Cameron can spend the amount of the average annual earnings on a garden shed, after clearing off as fast as he could after the Referendum result, instead of seeing the job through. Or MPs in the last Parliament voted themselves a good payrise. All this at a time of austerity, for others. That's what makes people sick.

NipInTheAir · 14/08/2017 08:07

Well he won't ever stink as much as the fractured and politicised NHS. It was no better when Blair threw money at it.

GlitterGlue · 14/08/2017 08:10

Might not be true, but he's still an unpleasant chap.

Believeitornot · 14/08/2017 08:11

It's not true, I say that begrudgingly because I cannot stand what he has done to the NHS and to the morale of the workforce. He's a terrible Secretary of State.

However I'd rather he was brought down fair and square although it may be too late for the NHS by the time it happens.

Believeitornot · 14/08/2017 08:13

It was no better when Blair threw money at it

I think you'll find it was and Blair had to up the funding to the NHS after it had been underfunded by the Tories previously. Do you remember the stories of people dying in corridors before 1997?

And it was the Tories who ushered in the ridiculous "internal market" system which sees people paid very high salaries to come up with artificial prices for one part of the NHS to pay another Hmm

Peachyking000 · 14/08/2017 08:17

True or not, he's still hateful. I don't know of a single doctor who likes him, which says it all really

sahknowme · 14/08/2017 09:02

I don't know of a single human being who likes him.

NipInTheAir · 14/08/2017 09:09

Blair spent the money on the PCTs which were an additional layer of bureaucracy. They were introduced as GP fundholding was seeing real success because Labour couldn't stick the concept of choice. I had my first baby in 1994 and my last in 1998. The standard of service was better in 1994. because as soon as Labour took over it shut my local hospital.

The NHS is failing because of the people in it not because of Jeremy Hunt. It thinks it does the public a favour because it is free. It isn't it does nobody a favour and it's workforce particularly needs to be depoliticized. As Indeed does all decision making around it.

The NHS started to become unfit for purpose in 1947 and has been getting more unfit ever since.

The sooner we have a continental system like that in France, Germany, Austria, Belgium the better.

Talking of corridors. The ambulance service recently took a neighbour if mine to the local general hospital. She had a broken hip and wrist. Local hospital doesn't do emergency surgery. She waited on a trolley for 16 hours to be transferred to the hospital that did. When her son arrived several hours later he had to read the riot act to get her pain relief. They'd given her .............paracetamol! Good job he's a doctor (retired). He retired because he retired of incrementally worsening nursing standards. It's a disgrace but let's slam Jeremy Hunt, who if he publicly acknowledged this, woukd be hung drawn and quartered at the expense of the sacred cow.

flumpybear · 14/08/2017 09:11

Many MP's are self serving .... he'd probably claim his private health insurance on the Government too
