Says it all, massive cuts in NHS funding, while Hunt has installed a £44k shower in his office so he can be fresh after cycling to work.

The sooner we have a continental system like that in France, Germany, Austria, Belgium the better.

I'd be perfectly happy to see us have a proper debate about what sort of health service we want and are prepared to pay for, looking at other countries like those mentioned to see if we can learn something.

Sadly, I don't think we will get any debate - we will slavishly import the American system.

Jeremy Hunt says it isn't true and is quoted in the DM.

The Times have run with the story that it is true.

Take your pick Smile

It is rather embarrassing that his borough council is closing all their public toilets because they can't afford to run them, though.

No. What the Times says is this:

A Department of Health spokeswoman said: "The Health Secretary has not approved any costs relating to the department's new building, but has requested facilities for all cyclists and runners in line with those the department currently has."

No mention of a private shower for Hunt in the Telegraph, apart from the Sun reporting it and Hunt denying it.

NiplinTheAir... I believe a normal birth costs the NHS around £2700 hope you went private when you had your DC's ?

I agree with your comment of, 'worsening nursing standards' but suggest this is due to poor pay and conditions. You notice that the US and OZ poach our home trained nurses and appear to turn their noses up at the nurses that we accept to replace them, this may well have something to do with these low standards, I can't blame them for wanting better pay and conditions, its the 'free market' !

I love the free market.. I'm a train driver, in the years leading up to privatisation the Tories starved BR of money, (and my pay was shit, I had to work 13 out of every 14 days) when it was privatised there was a national shortage of train drivers and the train operating co's threw money at us to poach drivers so they could meet their franchise requirements, now I work a 4 day week for just over £50k.

I also agree that PFI was a huge stupid mistake, but Labour had people who followed Tory dogma of out sourcing as the 'free market' can do it better. I'm always amused at people who quote PFI as a reason to privatise the NHS !

Your neighbour has my sympathy, I recently injured my knee and was told (that despite being left unable to work and running the very high risk of being laid off because of this) the waiting list was 9 months plus, so I had no choice but to go private.

I would add that I was recently told I'm developing COPD, I talk to people on a US support site.
Anyone who think the US system of health care is the way to go is a foolish cunt.

So many of them say that their health insurance has been exhausted or that health care was part of their pay package, they can no longer work so the health care stops and no one will insure them and they cannot afford to pay for their O2 and meds, it scares the shit out of me.

I don't like Jeremy Hunt, but false stories about him instead of true ones about the NHS as it is now do no-one any favours.
