Friend kindly grabbed me some veg from shops today - some toms, onions and mushroooms. After I asked how much it was and they said they couldn't remember but "about 4 or 5 pounds". Money's not tight and it doesn't matter... should I just pay? Friend can be a little funny with money sometimes too so there is history here...

£4-5? Better be bloody organic and be able to mop your floors if they're expecting that.

Migraleve · 05/08/2017 00:37

You should have said 'for that!' 'Nah, you are having me on, how much was it really? A coupon of quid?'

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 00:37

Just standard sainsbo's!!

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 00:37

Sorry bend change!

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 00:38

NAME change

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 05/08/2017 00:46

Pre packed or loose? It makes all the difference.

CockacidalManiac · 05/08/2017 00:46

Mushrooms and onions might come to a couple of quid, I suppose it depends if it's a lot of tomatoes.

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 00:49

Prepacked, all small value packs i.e. small punnet normal basics cherry toms, three onions in a pack, small box mushrooms.

CockacidalManiac · 05/08/2017 00:51

If you're worried, why not check the prices on Sainsbury's website?

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 00:52

I did... it's not the money just the principle Confused similar has happened before, a couple of quid, couple of quid there.

Birdsgottaf1y · 05/08/2017 00:54

It could easily be £4, if it is a bigger pack of mushrooms or plum tomatoes etc then it could be nearly £5.

It would be just over £3, even in Aldi.

You can price them up online, they might be pennies dearer in the shop.

Birdsgottaf1y · 05/08/2017 00:56

X post, so £3, just give him it then.

Happyeverafter73 · 05/08/2017 00:58

Sounds about right tbh. I think Sainsbury's is something like: Packet of tomatoes £1-2 (depending on type) mushrooms £1.50 packet of onions £1.20

MrsOverTheRoad · 05/08/2017 01:02

I think it sounds right too. Why would you be suspicious of a friend? Confused Normal adults don't "pull a fast one" over a few quid!

Shemozzle · 05/08/2017 01:04

If I had to guess how much they cost I would probably guess the same. About £1.50 each item give or take. I don't think they are deliberately trying to deceive you. If they aren't short on cash they probably take less notice of how much things cost. They also could be including parking if they had to pay for it.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 05/08/2017 01:07

6 tomatoes at waitrose are 69p, 3 onions are 99p a Punnett of mushrooms a pound..!

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 01:08

I'm wrong - accepted! Just thought 5 was a bit steep.

elessar · 05/08/2017 01:11

Pretty sure that's about £3 worth. £1 for a punnet of mushrooms, 3x onions is about 80p and about £1 for a small tub of std cherry tomatoes. If it was finest ones it would be more.

I'd give him £3.

thepumpk1neater · 05/08/2017 01:13

That must be Waitrose Essentials, itsnot

Itsnotwhatitseems · 05/08/2017 01:13

mind you maybe he had to pay for a bag too

Tofutti · 05/08/2017 01:13

£5 is steep. I wouldn't ask them again.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 05/08/2017 01:13

and then theres parking

Itsnotwhatitseems · 05/08/2017 01:14

and maybe it wore him out so he needed a drink to get him to the till...I expect that's it

Itsnotwhatitseems · 05/08/2017 01:15

Not sure, just happened to spot them today :) could have been essentials, but a tomato is a tomato is it not..

MysisteriscalledTwem · 05/08/2017 01:16

No bag needed and no parking - he walked to shops and picked up his own shopping then walked back. I'm not trying to ve ungrateful, just genuinely can't fathom how it could be five quid! He has a tendency to round up when I owe him and round down when it's the other way Confused
