AIBU- 8 year old has never been to McDonald's?

This is not a stealth boast. She has been to plenty of other places like Byron, GBK, pizza express, Nando's, Wagamama etc and I'm under no illusion that they're any better and actually some are probably worse for her. She's happened never to go to a party where the food bit has been at McDonald's. DH likes it and if he's grabbing food after work he might get a burger on the way home. I'm not fussed on it. DD (and DS but he's only 4) have never really been bothered about it, like if we stop at services they've never asked and like going into M&S instead and picking up picnic type stuff on car journeys. So the 'need' to take her has never arisen. But a few of my friends are a bit Hmm that she's never gone. AIBU to think it's not a huge deal?!

She will spend a lot of her teenage years in Maccys, so I wouldn't be too smug.

LalalalaaaaCantHearYou · 03/08/2017 20:18

You're probably be told yabu here but actually my 6yo has only been 3 times.
He doesn't get sweeties but the occasional chocolate (never a full size bar) and ice cream. He doesn't get sugar loaded cereals either.

I think you do what you right by your standard. I'm meh about what others feed their kids- it's entirely upto them.

You're not denying your child of anything so I don't see the problem

SorrelSoup · 03/08/2017 20:19

It's not a big deal. It's a massive part of the routine of some Kids lives though, where they'll go every week after an activity, for example. My dc probably go 4 times a year. It's not something I'd want to heavily promote, but then again they don't really sell anything I like.

Sparrowlegs248 · 03/08/2017 20:19

Not a big deal. I don't go, so my children haven't been as yet. They are much younger than yours though. I won't try and stop them going but if we are all eating I'd rather go to a Weatherspoons.

LalalalaaaaCantHearYou · 03/08/2017 20:20

Chasing- I don't think OP is being smug.

Flowersinyourhair · 03/08/2017 20:21

My 10 year old has been twice. Both with other people. My almost 3 year old has never been.

Whosthemummynow · 03/08/2017 20:22

Why does it matter?

My kids have never been to KFC..... Don't feel the need to post about it

SandyDenny · 03/08/2017 20:23

Who cares if someone else's child has been to a particular fast food place. Do they not have enough to do?

RainbowCookie · 03/08/2017 20:23

My 8 year old has never been either, he probably wouldn't even recognise the Golden Arches. We do live overseas though where Maccys isn't such a big thing, we're all about Nando's and KFC here

My 8yo hasn't either, and 11yo has only been a handful of times at parties and sleepovers, and hasn't been massively impressed or nagged to go back. No big deal IMO - I'm not smug about it, it's just not somewhere we go. (Probably is quite unusual though)

Whathaveilost · 03/08/2017 20:24

Mine never went.
I'm not against Mac's its just there wasn't much for me as a veggie.
Although they are older and go of by themselves they hardly ever choose Mac's because they prefer subway or BK.

LoyaltyAndLobster · 03/08/2017 20:24

YANBU and I don't think you are being smug either.

fiverabbits · 03/08/2017 20:24

My children were 16 & 17 before they ever had an McDonalds meal, whenever they ate before this we took our homemade food. They only have a Mcdonalds once a year one DS's birthday and he is now 36. I am 65 years old and only had one happy meal because no where else open and I can honestly I would not be worried if I never had anything from McDonalds or any fast food place again. There is more to live with kids than to worry about McDonalds.

Migraleve · 03/08/2017 20:25

Nobody cares. And if they do they are spending their time caring about things that are very insignificant.

Seenoevil · 03/08/2017 20:26

Has she ever been to KFC or Burger King either ? Just curious

Don't think it's a problem, she's not asking so not a big deal...

My kids probs go 1-2 times a month, school
Holidays can be more tho when there at there nans for the day while I'm working as it's easy for them

Dentistlakes · 03/08/2017 20:26

YANBU. Our DC are 9 and 7 and have never been either. I don't think they are missing out on much. I'm sure they're go at some point.

early30smum · 03/08/2017 20:28

I'm definitely not smug- she may well spend much of her teenage years there. I have nothing against it, I just wondered if it's a bit weird she hasn't been and what the general consensus was. I also don't think, for example, Byron or whatever is any better, really, and she's been there loads so...

I agree there are bigger things to worry about- couldn't we say the same of 80% of stuff posted on AIBU?!

She's incidentally never had KFC either!

Really not sure what your point is? Ds has been to McDonald's. He's never been to KFC or burger king though. Is that a big deal? Obviously not.

solvendie · 03/08/2017 20:29

My DD aged 8 doesn't like it either. She used to go when about 4yrs because she liked the toys and would eat the fries but now she would complain if I suggested going.

Not all children like McDonalds - I wouldn't worry about it
Wink

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 03/08/2017 20:29

You have saved yourself a bucket load of shit toys, that child asks for after you hoped they long forgot about and can put in bin!

I took DS to Morrisson cafe, never again it's back to MCds

My question is why, just why MCds have put tablets on tables. They grim, eat food whilst touching screen everybody has. They never clean them.

Fresh8008 · 03/08/2017 20:30

DS (16) was in a Mac D once when he was to young to remember, someones BDay party. Stay away. They are EVIL in the nicest possible way

rabbitcakes · 03/08/2017 20:31

I went to KFC for the first time last week.

I'm in my mid 30's

(But I'm very familiar with mc Donald's :p)

Beebee7 · 03/08/2017 20:32

Really struggling to fathom why anyone feels the need to start a thread about the fact their child has never been to Macdonalds.

Mine had never been to Ikea til they were past 9-10.

They never went to a 'Subway' fast food eatery til they were past the age of 12.

They never went into a LIDL til they were past 13.

Do I get a medal? (Like you appear to think you should be getting OP?)

Or shall I start a thread about it?! Confused

No-one gives a stuff whether your kid goes to maccies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or if they have never been in their life.

Very odd thread.
