Freshly cut and deep fried potatoes (twice) and the most gorgeous batter. All for £3.50.

Delicious.

Well I'm not long back from a week in Whitby and I've eaten my weight in fish suppers. It'll be a while before I have another. Delicious though.

Elendon · 02/08/2017 18:56

I probably would have paid a fiver for that. It was delicious. (They also do a damn good fried naan bread as well.)

Jeepers, that's a bargain! Small fish here is more than double that, large is a tenner!

ohhereweareagain · 02/08/2017 19:23

Ikea salmon chips and peas Wink

To love a fish supper.

£3.50????

Where is this bargain chippy?

bimbobaggins · 02/08/2017 19:26

Are you in Scotland elendon, , supper on something from the chippy is only something I've heard in Scotland. .

Floellabumbags · 02/08/2017 19:28

There's a chippy in Edinburgh that I used to visit for garlic cauliflower - deep-fried, battered cauliflower drenched in garlic butter.

anchor9 · 02/08/2017 19:30

yes please. i hardly ever get fish and chips as dp is ambivalent. must force the issue.

April241 · 02/08/2017 19:53

A fish supper is my absolute favourite takeaway choice! Best chippy we've ever been to is the Plaice To Be in Pitlochry, we talk about it all the time! It's about 2.5 hours from us but we've been tempted on many an occasion to go just to get a fish supper.

Also fish and chips from the Butterfly and the Pig in Glasgow is fab!!

Ragwort · 02/08/2017 20:05

We have the most amazing fish & chip shop within a five minute walk - very reasonably priced too - just had our evening meal from there Blush.

Elendon · 03/08/2017 07:27

I'm not in Scotland, I live in Cheshire East, though I was brought up in Northern Ireland. It's a great chippy and I think I adopted the term fish supper when I moved to England from Ireland way too many years ago (decades!).

That deep fried cauliflower sounds delicious!

Fried naan bread?! As in deep fried?

treaclesoda · 03/08/2017 07:32

I was just going to say that 'supper' is used in N Ireland too. Also 'can I have a chip please' (singular) instead of 'a portion of chips'. Smile

MadisonAvenue · 03/08/2017 07:38

I always love the idea of food from the chippy but usually regret it when we get something. Chips used to be lovely years ago but now, wherever we get them from around here, they're either very dry and cold or undercooked and very greasy.

Elendon · 03/08/2017 07:43

Ah yes Treaclesoda a chip is something I've had to drop. Maybe I unconsciously have always used fish supper!

Another Norn Irish expression is a poke instead of an ice cream! Much hilarity with that!!

The naan bread isn't deep fried, it's fried on a skillet. It's truly the food of the gods.

This sounds amazing!

Whippetmamma · 03/08/2017 08:04

Agree with April that Plaice to Be in Pitlochry is the best chippy I've been to :-) we live near Stonehaven when one of the chippys' is said to be the "birthplace of the deep fried mars bar" lol 😂

SheGotOffThePlane · 03/08/2017 08:33

Ha I'm in central Scotland and if it's just chips you're getting from the chippy it's known as a poke of chips.
I know its not even 9:00 but I could go a fish supper. This is why I have weight issues 😀

shakalaka · 03/08/2017 08:42

I miss my Edinburgh Salt n Sauce on my suppers! I also miss the variety you get in Scottish chippys. Sometimes I just need a haggis supper. Good fish is always a nice substitute!!

RhubardGin · 03/08/2017 09:02

trixymalixy

It's the Carron Smile

You should try The Bay, voted best chipper in Scotland, it's fantastic!
