Is spending £50 a fortnight on cannabis excessive? I don't go out, I hardly drink, and I don't really spend any money on myself other than my habit. How much do you all spend on luxuries like cigarettes, alcohol or cannabis?

When did drugs come under the category of 'luxuries'?

Report

Ilovecoleslaw · 31/07/2017 21:30

I wouldn't call any of those luxuries Hmm

BifsWif · 31/07/2017 21:31

If you can afford it, then no it's not excessive.

Can I ask why you smoke cannabis? No judgement, just interested.

Is this money all yours or are there financial responsibilities you have to tend to? Do you have a partner and kids?

HooplaLoopla1 · 31/07/2017 21:31

Ilovecoleslaw well no, but at least 2 of them are legal...

Luxury drugs? £10 a week on wine.

Yes.

Having lived with a cannabis smoker who spent a similar amount and became more and more anti - social, anxious, paranoid and aggressive while on it.

A big resounding yes.

Migraleve surely you spend some of your earnings on something for yourself?

You getting a quarter for that? Seems you smoke quite a lot if so, I'd expect a proper eighth to last a lone smoker 2 weeks .

QuiteLikely5 · 31/07/2017 21:35

Why even ask? Are you hard up? Is someone close complaining about your spending habits?

Your post is attention seeking. Bored are you?

Thought cannabis was supposed to 'chill you out'

MagnumAddict · 31/07/2017 21:35

Perhaps the reason you don't go out is spending so much on drugs that make you want to stay indoors in a cloud of smoke?

Sorry no idea if that is actually a lot to spend if you are that way inclined. I'm bitter about cannabis as I've seen it perpetuate MH problems of family and friends and in some cases change personalities completely. I appreciate the same could be said about alcohol and I have similar feelings towards that to be honest.

Has it been suggested you are spending too much?

Cigarettes: £0 per year
Alcohol: £100-120 per year
Cannabis: £0 per year

FuzzyOwl · 31/07/2017 21:36

I doubt I spend £50 a year on alcohol and nothing at all on cigarettes or cannabis (or any other illegal drugs). Chocolate, ice cream, and stupidly expensive drinks from coffee shops on the other hand, it is probably close to £50 per week!

VladmirsPoutine · 31/07/2017 21:37

I spend an inordinate amount on my hair.

Do you hide what you spend on cannabis from others? Do you worry what others think so hide your usage?

Yes to those questions would worry me more than some joints.

Yes of course I do. Lots in fact.

What I don't do is throw it away on drugs, cigarettes or alcohol.

NerrSnerr · 31/07/2017 21:38

It's not too much if you can afford it. I spend less on alcohol (and don't smoke) at the moment but have two small children so probably only have a pint a week at present.

I don't do luxury drugs. But I do wear Chanel foundation. About £40 every year or two.

Disclaimer .... he's dead now. The brother of mine who died from drug and alcohol addiction, and cannabis psychosis was the first symptom to be diagnosed.

Just sayin.

He was 38.
