Called police about neighbours

fuckoffdailysnail · 28/07/2017 15:29

I live in a small block of flats which is generally full of young families.
A new neighbour moved in a few weeks ago and since then has been smoking weed on his balcony every evening and each weekend morning Sad
I know he has one young child and a wife/girlfriend who live there but the woman doesn't seem to smoke at all that I've seen
I have young DDs and I'm having to keep the balcony door and the windows shut so they can't smell it and so our home doesn't stink
I got home from work last night and it absolutely reeked of weed Angry
I rang 101 and reported them as I was raging
My friend has said she thinks I was being ridiculous and over reacted Hmm
What's the consensus please

I have just been through this in the past couple of weeks (although the filling up our flat with the smell has been going on months). My neighbours rent so I paid £3 on the land registry to find the owner's details. Googled the names, found them on Facebook. The owner went round that evening and read them the riot act. I also have a CAD number that I can add to

Needsomeflapjacks · 28/07/2017 15:34

You should be a to enjoy your home with the window open without smelling drugs imo.

And Ss may be interested too. . Their poor dc. .

OooohHorlicks · 28/07/2017 15:34

So he's sitting on his balcony so as not to fill his flat with fumes from smoking drugs but filling your fiat with it is fine? No of course YANBU.

SharkAdvocate · 28/07/2017 15:34

I think you were over reacting. You hadn't even simply asked him to stop first.

tissuesosoft · 28/07/2017 15:34

You aren't being ridiculous. As I said to DP- I don't care if they were shooting heroin into their balls but it's affecting us now (they were also throwing the spliff ends out of the window to the communal gardens)

honeysucklejasmine · 28/07/2017 15:35

YANBU, it stinks. You'll get plenty of people telling you to chill out and "it's just weed". But I would have done the same.

fuckwitery · 28/07/2017 15:35

YANBU about the smell but I think YABU about calling 101 straight off. you could have had a word with them about it before calling the police. They might well have no idea the smell goes into your flat.

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 28/07/2017 15:37

Yuk, the smell of weed is disgusting. YANBU.

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 28/07/2017 15:38

The cool ones will be along soon to tell you to relax and enjoy it man .

Notknownatthisaddress · 28/07/2017 15:39

YANBU, why WOULDN'T you report it???

I may be wrong here, but I am pretty sure smoking weed is against the law............ Hmm

And the smell is vile.

OooohHorlicks · 28/07/2017 15:41

I also would've called 101. If you had said something first and it hadn't stopped he would've known who had called. That kind of thing escalates fast.

JungleInTheRumble · 28/07/2017 15:41

YANBU, weed smells horrible and is so distinctive and pungent.

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere · 28/07/2017 15:41

I think explaining the situation to them and giving them chance to rectify it would have been a better way to go tbh.

Lana1234 · 28/07/2017 15:43

The smell is very overbearing so YANBU about that. His choice to smoke should no way infringe on your property/right to live without the disturbance of the smell.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2017 15:45

I would have spoken to them first.

The police won't do anything anyway, apart from have a polite word if they can spare an officer.

Are they renting? If so, the landlord might be a better way to go.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/07/2017 15:46

I agree with you, op. I would have called the police. From experience, I have learned not to confront a stoner neighbour about their behaviour.

Violetcharlotte · 28/07/2017 15:51

I don't blame you for calling 101, it's really, really annoying. My neighbours smoke weed in the garden too and it stinks. However I don't think the Police will do much about it though.

MiniAlphaBravo · 28/07/2017 15:51

I've just done the same for similar situation. The stink was filling my kids room.

I doubt the police will do anything though. But maybe if others also report. Plus I suspect my neighbours are dealing.

Twinkletowedelephant · 28/07/2017 15:54

In our last place I reported it for years.. including the dealing from the carpark.

Nothing was ever done...I was given countless replies that they were after the 'big fish's. We moved

LushBlitzer · 28/07/2017 15:55

Can I ask what the police said or did?
I had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully it's not been repeated yet, but wondering what I should do if it became a regular thing.

IdentifiesAsYoda · 28/07/2017 16:02

I'd have done the same

Don't give a toss about being 'cool' with drugs; not around my children, or other people's either

RB68 · 28/07/2017 16:03

I know someone local to me was reported and received a police visit. It was particularly bad and distinct from the road side. Its stopped

fuckoffdailysnail · 28/07/2017 16:04

The police did go round but I don't know what happened
They are council tenants, as am i so if it persists I might call them

OP posts:
Mumof56 · 28/07/2017 16:05

Do you think your children will get high from the smell of it?

Crinkle77 · 28/07/2017 16:06

I wouldn't have a word first then report them cos they will know it's you and could make life very unpleasant.
