Whinge about new neighbour

They are vacuuming and it sounds like a small jet engine having sex with a drill. They vacuum every night Sad They work 9-5. Why vacuum so late :(. I just wanted a whinge. I miss my old neighbours Sad

How new? Maybe they're decorating and need to hoover up the mess.

Bluntness100 · 25/07/2017 21:36

Do they have pets? They might like to vacuum before bed so it's fresh in the morning.

Gingerbeer200 · 25/07/2017 21:36

It is late and I wouldn't do it at this time but technically they aren't breaking any laws. Don't react to it and cause an unnecessary feud

dailydance · 25/07/2017 21:37

I like your thinking Wink not sure how effective it would be. They live in the upstairs flat. I could suddenly have an interest in seeing how many ping pong balls I can get to hit the ceiling at 6am?

I'm anti social and would live in the middle of nowhere if I could afford it!

I agree with Dances - vacuum at 6am!

dailydance · 25/07/2017 21:40

Ah no, I wouldn't complain to them, hence having a whinge here. No pets. It's newly decorated so unlikely to be that either. I think they're just being really house proud of their new flat.

I'll give it a go... I'll be nice though and do it at 8am. Seriously though, they have a crazy vacuum... I've never heard anything like it. It's definitely a vacuum...or an industrial strength vibrator Grin I'm sure (hoping) the "new flat" novelty will wear off soon

Why not talk to them? I must admit I don't think 930 is late, I wouldn't do it but I'm always cautious about stuff like this.

Upstairs currently sound like they're doing plyometrics ....I actually think they are!!!

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 25/07/2017 22:04

You could test your fire alarm at 6am.

MyLittleCat · 25/07/2017 22:04

Taken from here

"It is recommended by environmental health officers that noisy DIY should only take place between 8am and 6pm on weekdays, Saturdays between 8am and 1pm and never on a Sunday. Similar recommendations are in place for hoovering and other noisy domestic appliances."

Gemini69 · 25/07/2017 22:04

they are actually breaking the Law hoovering so late x

AgathaF · 25/07/2017 22:07

Why don't you just pop round and nicely ask them if they could do their cleaning a bit earlier in the evening. They are probably unaware that it is so loud to you.

quizqueen · 25/07/2017 22:16

Invite one of them in for a chat at the same time that the other is hovering so they can hear first hand what it sounds like for you in your flat. I am sorry for you; this is why I have lived in a detached house for the last 37 years, I like to be noisy myself!

fullofhope03 · 25/07/2017 22:17

Thank you for the info MyLittleCat - But Christ! it's illegal to hoover/do DIY after 1pm on a Saturday and at any time on a Sunday? That's madness!

fullofhope03 · 25/07/2017 22:18

Oops! Just re-read and realised it's 'recommended' not illegal. Phew!

Slimthistime · 25/07/2017 23:10

8am for DIY and I'd be asking, nicely, for a delay! Had some jehovah witnesses ring at 8.30 on a Saturday, I gave them, er, hell.

Riverdale32 · 25/07/2017 23:23

They vacuum every night? Makes me feel like a right lazy slob Confused

Motoko · 25/07/2017 23:30

Dailydance what about all those cobwebs on your ceiling that need hoovering? Wink

BankWadger · 25/07/2017 23:36

I had to vacuum last week. It was to drown out the sound of upstairs having sex.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 25/07/2017 23:46

But 9.30 isn't late!

RB68 · 25/07/2017 23:47

I think in an upstairs flat its reasonable to ask not after 8pm, get them to test it out by one of them hoovering and the other coming to yours and they will realise the impact it has. Every night is excessive, they need a life!!

MissAlabamaWhitman · 25/07/2017 23:48

I'd be more offended by 8am vacuuming on a Saturday morning tbh.

And I always vacuum on a Sunday and it's the only day that I do
