OP posts:
flownthecoopkiwi · 24/07/2017 14:58

I'm a kiwi. We live in black.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/07/2017 14:58

Comments about what? Wearing head-to-toe black? What are people saying?

aramintafatbottom · 24/07/2017 14:59

Nope. I wear a lot of black.

Sunshinegirls · 24/07/2017 15:00

Ignore the haters. Black is cool

Saralyn · 24/07/2017 15:02

There is an overweight woman at my work who always wear black. I hadn't really thought about it until she joked about it herself. Nobody has found it weird.

DramaInPyjamas · 24/07/2017 15:03

What are they saying exactly!? That you're a goth/witch? That it's too hot to wear dark colours?

Everything I own is black. It suits me and I like it. Yanbu

LambChopsMcGee · 24/07/2017 15:03

flownthecoop me too! I've had comments about it though, esp when my maternity wardrobe was also all black... I like it though. (I do use the kiwi defense)

And yes OP, wear what you want!

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2017 15:04

Erm, loads of people wear black all the time. Cannot imagine anyone commenting at all.

wizzywig · 24/07/2017 15:05

Course you can wear what you want. My opinion for what its worth, is all black only looks good on goth teenagers. Otherwise it looks as though you are taking the 'wear black its slimming' thing too far. Also reminds me of jo brand. Plus as soon as you start wearing colour people will start with the 'oh my god, breaking news! grilledcheese is wearing red!'

Fairylea · 24/07/2017 15:06

Eh?! What's wrong with wearing all black? Do people really think it's weird?

MsSusanStoHelit · 24/07/2017 15:41

Your comments workers are dicks. You're being extremely not weird. Normal, in fact.

JacquesHammer · 24/07/2017 15:48

I haven't worn colour in about 20 years. I think I'm good Grin

I love black. All I wear. I don't think people think I am weird. Or at least not for my clothes

Heatherjayne1972 · 24/07/2017 15:50

My uniform is all black
Best colour I think

Brittbugs80 · 24/07/2017 15:51

I get this if I wear a skirt or shorts "oh my god Britt has legs" it makes me feel even more self conscious as others then stop and look.

And of course I've got fucking legs, do people think I hover everywhere?!

Mammylamb · 24/07/2017 15:52

A lot of British folk wear black all the time to work. Years ago, working in holland, a boyfriend asked me why me and all my British colleagues were in black; had we just been to a funeral??

The80sweregreat · 24/07/2017 15:55

i love black clothes - dark colours are my friend and i am not keen on reds and bright things. i love the winter as the clothes tend to be darker.
black makes me look a bit slimmer ( im my head anyway)

PinkHeart5911 · 24/07/2017 15:58

I love black I'd say about 40% of my wardrobe is black. It hides a world of sins Wink

Never had a comment on it.

I think the people you work with are odd for commenting on it tbh

LaArdilla · 24/07/2017 15:59

Comments like what?

Everyone wears black. It's the most common colour in an office. Personally I don't touch it, but it's literally the most inoffensive and bland shade to wear.

Are they commenting on your spiked leather collar or heavy eyeshadow? Your weight?

BackforGood · 24/07/2017 16:01

Don't think I'd even register, tbh.
If I did, I wouldn't think anything about it, and, if I did, I wouldn't say anything about it.

AztecHero · 24/07/2017 16:07

what sort of comments? That's mad. Black is a perfectly normal office-wear colour.

FWIW, I am overweight and I wear dark greys in winter and navy blues in summer as black is too harsh for my very pale hair and almost invisible pale yellow eyebrows.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 24/07/2017 16:08

Black is a bit hot at this time of year, but nearly all of my trousers are black because it's easy and hides the flabbiness a bit. I generally wear patterned tops because I'm clumsy and a pattern hides the stains better, but I have a few black tops too.

I once wore a smart dress to work, just because I wanted to. People kept asking me if I was going for a job interview. Grin

HeteronormativeHaybales · 24/07/2017 16:11

In a previous job I had a colleague who would wear a sort of 'uniform' (was generally a casual-ish type of office) - black trousers, black cardigan, mostly buttoned up, over white top, and a fairly muted scarf. She looked good and it was very simple and practical and suitable for all sorts of occasions. She wasn't really overweight, but curvy, and it suited her figure.

PaintingOwls · 24/07/2017 16:14

In my culture you wear black exclusively for 40 days after someone dies... so I would wonder if you were mourning someone too.

jamdonut · 24/07/2017 16:18

As a TA, black is a practical colour to wear. Most of my colleagues wear it too. Sometimes we joke we are wearing uniform, because we often turn up in the same things! Other days it may be stripes, or floral patterns. It's just weird how , without discussing it, we turn up in similar designs or colours!

HellonHeels · 24/07/2017 16:21

Perfectly OK in my opinion. I wear a lot of black.

I also used to work with fashion educators and many of them wore nothing but black.
