Would you accept this council house?

I'm currently renting a house for £360 per month from a housing association.
Not in the best location.
I bidded on a house (through council ) it's only 7 years old,much better location and massive garden ,£380 per month.
I went for viewing today and I was the only person who turned up.
Anyway if I get offered it,do I take it?
It's going to mean new carpets,decorating.
Luckily the council have just painted all ceilings and all walls white but I would want to put my own stamp on things.
What would you do?
It's great rent price and still leaves us with a lot of spare money in the month for other things.
Is it worth moving for better location ?
Its bigger too.

Sounds like a no brainer? At least it's a blank canvas, we moved a few months ago and spent weeks painting over black walls (I kid you not the walls were painted black!) and taking off layers upon layers of wall paper :( not to mention all the hard work the garden has been

Is this some sort of weird stealth boast, or are you going to drip feed that it will mean moving your kids from wonderful outstanding schools, or having your pet hamster put to sleep?

Is it just that you can't face the thought of moving and redecorating? If so then you need to push on through, it will be well worth it in the end!

Of course you should. It freshly painted, larger garden only five pounds a week more. Are the neighbours OK? Can you ask around.

So for £20 extra a month your get a nicer house, big garden and in a better location? How can that not be a good deal?

I think this is a short term pain: long term gain scenario.

You are struggling to see past the hassle of moving and redecorating to the longer term benefits.
So for the next six months your life may be less pleasant if you move but after that six months your life is likely to be better for a long time.

Based on what you've posted - I'd move

It's worth the stress of moving for a better house. It will cost a bit, but carpet can be very cheap and durable these days.
If you are prepared to rough it a bit while you save up for curtains/blinds etc, you'll be fine.

Having to fork out on all brand new carpets,about £700 including fitting.
Ringing every credit card/bank/sky/broadband changing details etc
I know it might sound daft but it's playing on my mind

You don't have to do everything right away. Ringing to change addresses is not a big deal

Gee, why on earth do you need our input? You're unbelievably fortunate. Yes, you will have to spend a bit of money to make it home but you've already said you can afford it so why the hesitation. Here in London your monthly rent is not a lot more than a WEEKLY rent here!!!
