To ask the reverse of interior design hates

LotsOfSausage asked what were people interior design hates. Fab thread and have enjoyed reading it (NRFT).

It seems a lot of people know what they hate in home interiors. I'd like to ask what you love.

I'll start ... I love comfy armchairs, woollen blankets and ambient lighting.

I also love a nice scented home that's always a pleasure to enter and makes you feel 'warmly embraced'. I also like clean and gleaming worktops and dust free wooden furniture. Clean & tidy is never out of style Wink

books and paintings

Lots of books. Rugs. Family photos. Fresh flowers.

My lilac sofa is a thing of beauty Grin

bridgetreilly · 19/07/2017 09:46

Somewhere that people clearly live in and use. I like 'stuff'. I like to feel comfortable and not scared to spill something by mistake.

Somewhere that is personal and individual, with things people love, whether or not they 'go' or are on trend.

Colour, colour, colour!

ConstanceCraving · 19/07/2017 09:48

Antique furniture, blue and white china, rush matting.
Dried physalis in a jug.

TerfwithaNerf · 19/07/2017 18:00

Colour and personality basically.

Dark walls
Dark wood furniture (solid wood)
Oriental rugs
Art everywhere
Velvet sofas
Victorian cast iron fires with beautiful original decorative tiles (scored one on eBay recently).
Proper wooden floors
Parquet
Chinoiserie (Mrs Brown's bedroom in Paddington is my dream 😍😍😍).

Basically, everything that is the opposite of white and minimal.

Tilapia · 19/07/2017 18:23

Books definitely. But I don't like clutter, so I generally prefer a minimalist look as long as it's not too sterile.

sunshineunicorn · 19/07/2017 18:58

Plants. Lots and lots of plants.
I love bohemian homes with "stuff" everywhere but i couldn't live in one so will stick to my grey and white minimal home

TerfwithaNerf · 19/07/2017 19:04

YY to both plants and books!

I currently have 6 plants in my living room as well as a few bunches of yellow roses. Has to be the real kind, hate fake plants.

SharonStrzelecki · 19/07/2017 19:19

A few things I really like:

Parquet / proper wood floor
Things that have been chosen because they're loved, rather than to match
Painted walls rather than loud wallpaper
Art
Solid wood, especially old furniture
Original features (mainly on anything older than mid 20th century)
Lamps for evenings rather than ceiling lights
Fireplaces with either an open fire or a nice wood burner
Wood frames on windows rather than pvcu
