Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

I loathe those words. Self and DP rearranged Live, Love in a shop once, and we have been known to spell out rude words. However, we are guilty of lots of GREY, and have a very hotel-ish en suite.

I hate freestanding fridges covered in magnets. It looks so messy. I much prefer inbuilt appliances.

Magnets or children's drawings in fridge doors are certainly not tasteful.

nina2b · 18/07/2017 10:26

...on fridge doors

nina2b · 18/07/2017 10:26

Though it's hardly interior design, I suppose.

nina2b · 18/07/2017 10:30

I think the abundance of grey shows a lack of imagination.

Peachyking000 · 18/07/2017 10:33

I love this thread. I often have to visit people's houses as part of my job, and a common theme I see is: black shiny oversized tile flooring, black feature wallpaper often with massive silver flowers, silver/chrome furniture and accessories from B&M e.g. huge twig things in vases, silver Buddhas, that sort of thing.

I admit I did have a wall slogan in my old house which said "a house is made from bricks and beams, homes are made from love and dreams." I know! My current house is v tasteful though!

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/07/2017 10:45

Nina I don't...grey can be a beautiful backdrop for a home with lots of beautifulyl coloured textiles and paintings. Grey can have all kinds of undertones...pinkish, blueish...it's a lovely colour.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/07/2017 10:46

Peachy that kind of wallpaper will unfortunately be the orange flowers of the 000's...like the way we had all those brown and orange daisies in the 70s!

Cantspell2 · 18/07/2017 10:48

Open plan.....just why?
Who wants their kitchen stalls floating around the lounge all the time or the steam and sounds of the kettle as you try to watch coronation street.

Infact I have come to the conclusion all interior design is naff and homes should just evolve as people live in them accumulating crap as they go.

Cantspell2 · 18/07/2017 10:49

Stalls = smells

RiverTam · 18/07/2017 10:50

At last! Someone has mentioned something that I have, I feel validated now. My non-built-in fridge is covered with fridge magnets and assorted bits of paper. At one point all it had on it were 4 fridge magnets - Mr Incredible, Henry VIII, Winston Churchill and Jesus (not Hitler, though).

Not exactly interiors but I hate loo roll that isn't white. I was forced into buying 'warm natural' this week and it's very upsetting. I could have bought quilted but that seemed even worse, some how. 'Moisture pockets' I think it said on the packet. Yeuch.

My fridge has the stations of the Keighley and Worth Valley Steam Railway (think Railway Children film). Fridge magnets of mini Station signs in order:

Keighley • Ingrow West • Damens • Oakworth • Haworth • Oxenhope

i like my fridge magnets, but i did buy a magnet board for paper and other bits - probably seen as completely naff!

ScrumDinger · 18/07/2017 11:15

I'm fond of a fridge magnet or two!

RiverTam · 18/07/2017 11:16

Fontella they sound lovely, but also too properly thought through. I just end up with random stuff that I pick up without actually thinking what I already have. Sometimes I enjoy my mishmash, other times it just looks a mess and gets me down.

FlorenceLyons · 18/07/2017 11:28

'HOVEL' and 'EVIL VOLE' are brilliant! Almost tempted to buy some letters just so I could do that.

Loving this thread. I need to confess to two things - a bowler hat light and a leather sofa (but it's Danish mid-century modern, dontchaknow - does that make it better or worse? Grin)

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 11:45

Fridges and freezers shouldn't be built in because of how they work.

Fontella · 18/07/2017 11:54

You don't get more naff that railway stations!!

I'm not really into steam railways either but we had such a fab holiday last year in Oakworth and used the railway all the time to go back and forth to Haworth.

I can see people looking at the fridge like WTF???

GrinGrinGrin

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 11:55

I don't like blue interiors. A little bit of dark blue is OK but not blue walls, blue fabric etc all at once. I also don't like grey. I was flicking through a homes type magazine in the supermarket once and an interior designer's house was all grey. Every room grey.
I appreciate that there are several shades of grey (at least 50) and that some serve very well as a neutral, but ...

I love Evil Vole. (I don't need to say HOVEL, it's obvious)

Lucisky · 18/07/2017 12:42

Dillite the mural is from Murals Wallpaper (online company) and is called birds and berries. They have got even more designs now since I last looked (bought that one 2 years ago). Hmm, I can feel another feature wall coming up!

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 18/07/2017 12:48

I'm another fridge magnet culprit

All over the front and side of my free standing fridge! Some of you would be horrified.

ScrumDinger · 18/07/2017 12:56

No. Train stations are quite tasteful really and what's more, that's practically a dare I say it............curated fridge magnet collection. My fridge magnets can make no such claim to taste and theme.

The80sweregreat · 18/07/2017 13:04

we like to go to places and buy a magnet. my dh travels a lot with work and always brings one home from his travels for the fridge.

nornironrock · 18/07/2017 13:22

Not read all the replies (obviously) but has anyone mentioned matching picture frames??? the frame should match the art, not the wallpaper/pain/curtains.

Magnolia - criminal

It amazes me just how many people are prepared to have their own home be so completely unreflective of who they are and what they love.

BroomstickOfLove · 18/07/2017 13:37

I really want this wallpaper in our downstairs loo. I don't care if you all hate it.
www.hearthomemag.co.uk/blog/blog/bike-ride-wallpaper-celebrates-the-tour-de-france

I don't mind houses where people clearly haven't made much of an effort. What makes me uncomfortable are the pristine, very clean, shiny houses where everything matches and there are no books or interesting pictures or anything to tell you about who the people are.
