Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

Oh how could I forget... TAXIDERMY

KC225 · 17/07/2017 06:38

Surely the odd stiff bird on a glass case?

silkybear · 17/07/2017 06:39

I love feature walls i've got a white lounge with two dark teal alcoves. I like strong colours but painting the entire room teal would be way too dark and all white is too cold for me. Lived in too many white or magnolia rentals. How do the feature wall haters use colour? The latest trend seems to be dark on every wall but you have to have a very big bright room to carry that off.

Housewife God yes! It seems so awful doesn't it?

Silky that sounds lovely to me. Nothing wrong with feature walls or alcoves.

Lightlovelife · 17/07/2017 06:55

Feature walls

Bluntness100 · 17/07/2017 07:03

So love this thread

Basically whatever you have, someone will hate it.

Some of it is so irrational too,,,,that's the joy.😂

sandgrown · 17/07/2017 07:03

I have not got a wooden seagul l but I have some real (very noisy) ones nesting on the roof at the moment!

cheshire87 · 17/07/2017 07:06

Anyone that hangs curtains with these...

And when they don't touch the floor!

Cheap cheap cheap

Gloss kitchens
Deliberately mismatched cup displays
Welsh dressers
Freestanding trophy sized 'American' fridge freezers
Cushions stood on their corners, in a row
Collections of anything in glass display cases
Large porcelain dolls in chairs...looks like a sign saying psyco murdering nutters live here
Clowns..there is no reason for clowns ANYWHERE
Any artwork or painting that looks looks like it was done with artex..and you lose extra points if it's in teal, brown, red and floral or boats.
Abbusson rugs
Paisley
And I'm pretty sure a large pet cage , plus inhabitants, that smells of feces is a no no too..just saying that's not appearing in any interior design magazines anytime soon.

All gold.

RiverTam · 17/07/2017 07:46

Ah yes, long curtains - for those who are so hip that they don't need anything so prosaic as warmth from their radiators to actually penetrate the room, far better that the radiator is covered by the curtain and everyone freeze. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they'll also have the wooden floors in the bedroom and a lot of grey.

(Obviously what this is more critical of is the ridiculous British habit of positioning radiators under windows, so the warmth can fly straight out of the window. But that's no reason to make the situation worse.)

Oh, and blinds. There is nothing that blinds bring to a room (bar the bathroom) that curtains wouldn't a million times better.

People really hate warmth and comfort in their homes these days, don't they? Odd.

SoupDragon · 17/07/2017 07:50

I have only one: people who follow "rules" or "fashion" rather than doing what they want and having what they like in their own home.

MrsExpo · 17/07/2017 07:57

For some reason, I can't abide flat screen TV's on walls!! Especially on the wall over a fireplace, like the telly is the most important thing in the world!! (But then I very rarely actually watch TV so might have something to do with it).

BasketOfDeplorables · 17/07/2017 07:59

Interesting that TVs in walls has come up so much, as I think a lot of people put them on the wall because they think they're less intrusive there.

Sallystyle · 17/07/2017 07:59

I have a corner sofa
A feature wall- it's awesome though, great wallpaper that gets loads of compliments
I have a white tempered glass table
I have a huge clock in my kitchen
I have blinds in my living room
A big TV mounted on the wall

My house looks quite nice actually Grin

I have no pet peeves. I really don't care what others have and I've never seen something in a house that I thought looked really bad. Clearly it's because I have bad taste Grin

YellowLawn · 17/07/2017 08:06

very neat pleated net curtains that look like the curtains of a hearse.
fake plants

YellowLawn · 17/07/2017 08:11

freestanding sofa/chair blocking book shelves or other furniture

fruityb · 17/07/2017 08:14

Declarations of how amazing a couple the house owners are... endless photos of themselves or notonthehighstreet knick knacks like sound waves of their song or their initials all over everything...

JimmysMum1988 · 17/07/2017 08:14

Anything gold

Arealhumanbeing · 17/07/2017 08:14

Vertical blinds
Dulux 'sexy pink' 🙄
Pile of old books as a decoration
Bedding that isn't 100% cotton
Bowls of straw balls
Furry cushions, especially the long hair type.
Corner units

tanfield90 · 17/07/2017 08:30

Feature walls are crap. Why anyone would choose to decorate a wall or two with wallpaper straight from the set of George and Mildred is beyond me.

Also, bed linen with great big buttons on. What is the point ?

ethelfleda · 17/07/2017 08:34

Pile of old books as a decoration

Haha - not only do I have this in my living room but they also were part of the centre pieces at my wedding Grin

hudyerwheesht · 17/07/2017 08:39

Can't believe there's been no mention of those professional family photos yet - usually massive with white background. Real family photos I don't mind but not the staged ones in a photographers studio.
