For Spoiling Dr Who?

SpoilyWoily · 16/07/2017 20:32

After the Dr Who announcement I saw a lot of horrible sexist negativity about the 13th Doctor being a female.

I posted on FB about how great I thought it was. I didn't state the actors name or anything.

An acquaintance on FB has got really upset with me for posting this 'spoiler'. I apologised but did say (nicely) it's all over the Internet now so I didn't think it was that bad. She said she shouldn't have to avoid social media and all her other friends are respectful of this and unfriended me. I messaged her when I noticed she unfriended me and she called me some names.

I've backed off now because I can't be bothered given how OTT she was with me.

My question is WIBU to post about it? I'm someone who doesn't really mind about 'spoilers' so perhaps I don't understand that perspective and will try to remember in future. I'm normally careful though with 'spoilers' so for example with GOT I might post a status update but wouldn't put spoilers in the actual update but state there may be spoilers in the comments.

Urgh she needs to get a life.

boggedoff · 16/07/2017 20:33

she sounds totally bonkers! it's everywhere, was she expecting to wait until Christmas?

enjoyingscience · 16/07/2017 20:34

Did she expect not to find out until Christmas? That's a bit weird. You did nothing wrong, it's all over the news!

Louiselouie0890 · 16/07/2017 20:34

Oh wow good riddance lol she shouldn't have to avoid social media lol that'd a funny one. What an idiot

ChasedByBees · 16/07/2017 20:52

I've got some friends who have left social media as they expect spoilers and want to avoid them so not going to happen. That's taking responsibility for yourself, your ex friend was odd.

PixieXox · 16/07/2017 22:35

Nah she's a twat

scaryclown · 16/07/2017 22:40

Oh great. Thanks.. Angry

(not really) Grin

Cailleach666 · 16/07/2017 22:42

Do adults still use facebook?
Even my teenage kids have moved on.

TizzyDongue · 16/07/2017 22:52

Teenagers don't tend use it Cailleach666 do the fact yours did is unusally. Generally it's older people use it. Quite a lot of them.

OP your 'friend' is a dope!! Of course she should have stayed away from all social media.

bimbobaggins · 16/07/2017 22:55

Is she going to avoid switching on the telly or looking at a newspaper?
How ridiculous.

StickThatInYourPipe · 16/07/2017 22:56

I think YANBU however if it had been who Big A was on PLL before I had a chance to see it (watched it the eve of day it came out) I would have blocked forever only slightly joking Grin

Storminateapot · 16/07/2017 22:58

That's very bizarre. It's not like it was a show she has recorded, it's NEWS (of a sort, if you care about that kind of thing). It's hardly spoilers.
Careful not to tip her off on who won WW2 eh? Grin

Guepe · 16/07/2017 23:12

YANBU, it's the third story on the BBC news website.

I have no interest in Doctor Who, but I've seen the story in several places.

What a drama queen. Totally bonkers.

Ginosaji · 16/07/2017 23:19

I got an absolute bollocking off my sister once for posting a GOT spoiler on my fb status, it was just over a week since that episode had been aired, but i hadn't watched it at the time as i was on holiday, i had no idea she hadn't gotten around to watching it either

I calmly and politely pointed out that I couldn't help it if she hadn't watched it either , she said i should check first, i said that was daft as i have alot of people on my friends list who are fans and i can hardly check with every one of them if they have seen it before i post anything about it, and nor should i have to

I was accused of being selfish & inconsiderate, despite the fact i was getting quite cross at this point i remained calm and simply replied that i felt she was being ott about it all and reminded her that there had been times in the past that she herself had posted spoilers, and not once had i ever got angry and had a go at her about it, so there was no need for all this and it was silly to argue over a tv show

She promptly unfriended and blocked me, and then complained to her mum about me who text me and got all stroppy with me and said id upset her and should apologise!

Ohyesiam · 16/07/2017 23:21

I don't have a TV, I've not seen dr who since the 70 s, and even I know about it!
She is so OTT.

moutonfou · 16/07/2017 23:26

God, when it was announced I immediately got a BBC News notification and then it was like the top 5 posts on my Facebook news feed.

It's not like it's something she's waiting to 'experience' herself like a TV show or a sports match - it's just an announcement of a name. What exactly was she waiting for?

Storminateapot · 16/07/2017 23:32

Exactly, my phone self-importantly blasted out the BBC News ident and I thought 'oh no, now what'. There was no avoiding it.

WorknameJimEllis · 16/07/2017 23:33

She's a dopey arse.

I am a Who fan, and don't always watch the episode the night it is aired. And I stay OFF social media till I have watched it. Or I accept there will be spoilers.

DH shouted it down the stairs as i walked in this afternoon , the git. I did want to watch the announcement.

SpoilyWoily · 16/07/2017 23:34

ginosaji did you apologise?

Thanks everyone! I wondered if I had been a monumental twat about it.

YWNBU Its trending on Facebook, its on the front page of national newspapers tomorrow and everyone will probably be talking about it tomorrow. If you hadn't posted she would soon have found out. The new doctor is always big news.

Slimthistime · 16/07/2017 23:50

How on Earth would she have avoided that?

Tbh even if watching tv, if I'm not around to see something at time of showing, if I don't want to hear a spoiler I don't go on Twitter. I don't expect people to not discuss it!!

Beeziekn33ze · 16/07/2017 23:52

Very silly woman, it's impossible to avoid! Rather nice trailer on BBC news of her walking through a forest.
