To only use iPhones?

rainbowduck · 14/07/2017 16:33

I am clueless about technology but have invested heavily in buying music from iTunes over the years and am now fairly confident using this system. DH recently bought me an iPod, which I also use for iMessage and FaceTime.

I now need a new phone (lost mine!) and have only ever had iPhones (due to music). I am wondering if it is silly to buy another iPhone when I have an iPod?

If yes, what would you recommend? I use the internet, SMS, Whatsapp and emails mainly.

I switched from iPhone to the Sony xperias and I'd never go back now. I was an avid iPhone follower right from the first one up until the 5s. Then I got sick of how restrictive they were. With any other phone (mostly) you can out your own memory card in (so no more picture transferring every month) and you're not just restricted to Apple store apps. For the first few weeks after leaving iPhone I hated it, but, with perseverance I love it now. Take the leap!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 14/07/2017 16:38

If you already had an iPhone, why would you need an iPod in the first place? Your iPhone is basically a better version of an iPod Grin

Hate iPhones with a passion after owning one, can happily recommend Sony Xperia or Samsung S7.

rainbowduck · 14/07/2017 16:43

I use the iPod to play music for my work. I was using iPhone but got sick of being interrupted by phone calls/message alerts coming.

I've used iPhones then switched to Sony Xperia (OK) - then got a Motorola G4 (omg - screen like a TV).

Now have a Galaxy S6.

In order of pref:
Galaxy
Motorola
Xperia
iPhone

Noodoodle · 14/07/2017 16:45

YABU, get something android based instead. Opensource software, much less app restrictive and super easy to use.
(Hides from apple fans)

I only use iPhones and have done since getting an iPhone 3 many moons ago and am now on an iPhone 7. I don't think I would ever change as I just don't like any other handsets. And I work for a mobile phone company so I know a lot about handsets and manufacturers, I just can't get on with anything else

Musicaltheatremum · 14/07/2017 16:48

I'm using a oneplus3T only available online. Cost about £400. Charges in 30minutes from empty to full so I don't leave it charging for hours.
Love it and it's sim free and unlocked so you just need a sim only contract.

I love iPhones, I went over to the dark side (android! ) and hated it so went back to iPhone and will always have them I would imagine.

In fairness I don't really think you will get an unbiased answer to your question as android users generally prefer android to iPhones and vice versa.

If you like using your iPod and would be happy to transfer the features to your phone then go for the iPhone, if not pick something else.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 14/07/2017 16:50

I am a complete Apple tart I'm afraid! We have an iMac, iPads, iPhones and MacBooks.

I used to be very anti but once I'd switched, I will never go back to an android phone. They are so easy to use.

You could have put your iPhone on to 'Do not disturb' mode where it only allows calls from specified numbers to sort the alerts, but too late now.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 14/07/2017 16:50

Ahh okay Grin I just put my iPhone on Do Not Disturb... problem solved and no need to lug around two expensive devices.

In answer to your question, absolutely stick with iPhones. They're the best for a reason.

rainbowduck · 14/07/2017 16:54

Thanks!

I shall look at those phones tomorrow along with the iPhone and see how I get on.

I'd definitely recommend a Samsung Galaxy s7 it's a great phone. I wouldn't have an iPhone if you paid me.

mirime · 14/07/2017 17:04

I had an iPod Touch before I had any sort of smart phone and that was enough to convince me to never have an iPhone.

I like HTC, but DH has had Samsung and Sony smartphones and both were good.

Funny. I was the opposite. Had an iPod Touch before any smartphone and it absolutely convinced me that iPhones and Apple was the way to go.

Q. How can you make a fortune out of sheep?

A. Bring out a new iPhone model every year.

Yeah, because once you get an android phone you never have to get another one ever again Confused

Gladallover that did make me giggle (I got very cross when support/updates for my original iPad was discontinued despite it being immaculate and only 5 years old), but I guess it is the nature of technology. Always rejigging/designing and 'improving' (fixing what wasn't broken)

I cannot stand the way Apple have a monopoly. YOu cannot get updates, softwear gets slower and slower as new models come out, which is quite often, so you have to get a new one. They are so expensive for what they are, £500 for a phone, when you could get a new computer for that. The way you are forced to buy expensive Apple accessories, when yours break. My I pad USB cable broke, it cost £25 from Apple store to get a new one, thank goodness I found a website selling discounted Genuine Apple accessories, and bought from them at £10 cheaper. Still dear for a cable.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/07/2017 17:29

Whattodo I had a Google Nexus phone for a few years, and its still fast and reliable.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/07/2017 17:29

Also androids are waaaay cheaper, so easy to get a new phone, you have to get a blooming loan to get an I phone.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 14/07/2017 17:41

I'm sure it is. But it won't be forever.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/07/2017 17:43

No, but its cheap enough to replace, not costing £££££ same with an android tablet, where you can get one for £100, not £600 like an i pad.

EssentialHummus · 14/07/2017 17:46

I use an iPhone because we get them free through a relative's work. Left to my own devices sorry I would go for a Motorola Moto G.
