to think our neighbour is unreasonable

I have just been out to check our post box and one of our [weird] neighbours has written on his:

POSTMAN PLEASE KEEP YOUR JUNKMAIL-I DONT WANT ANY LEAFLETS, PAPERS, DOMINOS FLYERS ETC

Surely its not the job of the postPERSON to do this!

No but he can't write to each individual junk mailer so he has to try to stop it at the point of delivery.

I think the note is a little rude though. I would put, 'No junk mail please' or something.

saltire · 24/03/2007 14:33

The postman will have to deliver them or he could into trouble. Was there not a story a few months back about a postie who told all the people on his round how to stop junk mail and he got suspended?
It is annoying, but we signed up to the postal preference service, cuts down junk mail

saltire · 24/03/2007 14:34

here

NuttyMuffins · 24/03/2007 14:34

My brother is a postman and yep they do have to deliver them, they don't have a choice.

scatterbrain · 24/03/2007 14:35

Yes but the postal pref service only works on stuff addressed to you - the postie does have to deliver that - but we increasingly get junk mail that the Post Office is distributing via posties ! That is what this neighbour is asking him not to put through !

I also have a note - more polite though - on my letter box !

I don't believe the PO should be doing this !

Spidermama · 24/03/2007 14:43

We can only put pressure on the postmen and women who may in turn put pressure on their bosses because scatter's right. We shouldn't have to put up with this. The post office gets lots of money for delivering junk and it's delivering more and more.

Saturn74 · 24/03/2007 14:45

powder, why is your neighbour weird?

powder28 · 24/03/2007 14:53

If you saw him and spoke to him you would see why!!!
Also he wears a hat and coat ALL YEAR ROUND. It could be the hottest day of the year and he would be wearing it.
I wonder what he is hiding under that hat? He cant be cold all the time surely, not with all that long hair!!!

ebenezer · 24/03/2007 16:05

definitely sounds weird! But just think, you could have Mr and Mrs Average as your neighbours and life would be so dull. Better weird than deadly boring.

powder28 · 24/03/2007 16:48

I think he may actually be that 'thing' from jeepers creepers cos if you look hard enough his skin seems to be shedding by the bucketload.

OP posts:
RustyBear · 24/03/2007 16:52

When I was young (Dark Ages) lots of people used to have signs on their gates saying 'No hawkers, No circulars'
I used to have visions of large round birds of prey until my mum explained what it meant.

powder28 · 24/03/2007 16:59

I was once talking to him. Well, he had asked me when we were going to finish doing our house up cos he couldnt sleep!
He works nights, so im not sure if he was expecting us to ask the carpet layers to come round at 2am!!
I was holding my ds2 and while this man was talkling to me he touched my sons hand!!
Anyway, i cut thwe conversation short and took ds2 inside and wiped his hand with a wetwipe. Seriously this guy scratches his head and skin seems to fall like snow.

OP posts:
margoandjerry · 24/03/2007 20:42

I think you are being weird about this.

Sorry but you wipe your child's hand after this man had brushed his hand? Maybe he has dry skin? Maybe he has psoriasis? God, poor him.

BassMama · 24/03/2007 21:11

Seriously?

I cant believe you would think he is weird because of a shin condition. Thats rude.

Why do people care so much about these flyers? Its SO not a big deal!

Can't folk just take two bloody minutes to read them and see if just maybe you might be interested? And if not, either put them in the bin, or recycle them.

I dont get why folk get so bothered by this?!

BassMama · 24/03/2007 21:13

SKIN not shin...!

And my grandfather used to wear a hat and coat all the time, regardless of the weather. He just liked it. I bloody hope noone was thinking he was weird.

coppertop · 24/03/2007 21:19

I don't think your neighbour is being unreasonable in leaving a note asking for no junk mail but, as others have said, it won't make any difference really.

Personally I don't see why you are so bothered about him wearing a hat and a coat. I also think you sound OTT rushing to get a baby wipe just because your neighbour touched your son.

they have to stop at the source! it's not the postman's fault!!!

tillykins · 24/03/2007 21:26

Its not rude to wipe the babys hand - it would be rude to wipe it infront of the neighbour whilst shrieking "yuck, you contaminated my child" and yes, he might have psoriasis, (sp?) but he might have scabies, nits or poor hygiene too! I'd wipe my hand, never mind the babys, if someone made me feel like that
As for the flyers, no, I don't think he is unreasonable to put that, just overly optimisitic
I ask the postman not to bring me bills but he doesn't listen

wpcanniecartwright · 24/03/2007 21:30

i have a sticker sent through the post that says no leaflets, on my letter box.
made no difference though!

wpcanniecartwright · 24/03/2007 21:31

aND my DS would like to wear his coat all the time, even at the swiming pool i have to remnd him, take you coat off!

BassMama · 24/03/2007 21:31

NITS???

Nits dont give you flaky skin, dear.

FFS

tillykins · 24/03/2007 21:33

they do if you scratch and scratch and scratch and scratch.....

BassMama · 24/03/2007 21:37

well.. nit-hands is a condition i've certainly not heard of.

must be new.. maybe yit spread by those flyers they keep sticking through the doors

FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2007 21:38

Is nit hands related to penisy hands?

Why is not wanting junk mail weird?
