To purchase a 'trendy' cycling jersey

First ever post. Please be gentle.
This year, I began cycling. I love it. I have some black, padded cycling shorts and a pink jersey... very tame but they serve their purpose.

I have seen some jerseys with wild designs on them - think skulls, roses and barbed wire type designs. I covet one of these jerseys.

However, I am 50. My dd24 says I am too old for such things...

To give you more information, I am slim (size 10), i ride my horse every day as well as cycle and go to the gym. I am fit and I have been told I can pass for late 30s.

AIBU to want such an item? Is my dd correct in saying I'm too old?

Tell your husband to fuck off.

Well done for being out there and cycling. Where what the hell you want.

I am a cyclist and let's face facts, cycling gear looks intrinsically ridiculous and if you can have a bit of fun at the same time, go for it!

BoysofMelody · 10/07/2017 16:00

Sorry tell your daughter to fuck off, not your husband.

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2017 16:04

Goodness OP, don't you realise that you are mutton dressed as lamb. At your age you should be doing nothing more strenuous that ordering beige elasticated waist skirts and mauve cardigans and flicking through cruise brochures.

Redcrayons · 10/07/2017 16:05

If you can afford it then buy it. life's too short.

I'd wear it round the house all the time just to annoy her.

thelonelyhamster · 10/07/2017 16:06

Not only is your daughter wrong, but unusual designs stand out more... so you're actually safer to buy the top you want.

You must buy it, your safety depends on it!

Sirzy · 10/07/2017 16:07

Wear what you want!

Nikephorus · 10/07/2017 16:08

Grin I'm now picturing OP riding slowly through a village on her ladies' bicycle with a big basket on the front, wearing her beige elasticated waist skirt & mauve cardigan (plus thick stockings and clunky brown sensible shoes), with a really wild jersey underneath!
Go for it OP. Worse case scenario you wear it once and then hide it in the back of the wardrobe.

JustHappy3 · 10/07/2017 16:08

Buy it - and get the cycling shorts to match.

pinkhorse · 10/07/2017 16:09

Do you mean like the ones with baked beans or London Underground on?

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2017 16:09

Was only joking BTW. I think it's great that you started a new hobby and 50 is quite young really. Have you got your hi viz and helmet?

justinelibertine · 10/07/2017 16:09

Get a vintage pro team jersey. Way cooler.

nocake · 10/07/2017 16:10

Go for it. There are some fabulous designs on cycling jerseys and it would be a shame not to wear them.

Areyoufree · 10/07/2017 16:19

Being slim and looking young shouldn't make any difference, by the way. Anyone can wear whatever they want. Apart from Crocs, obviously.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2017 16:20

Of course you can wear it. I have at t-shirt with a skull on it. I'm almost 49. I don't care what anyone thinks.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 10/07/2017 16:36

Oh do it, your DD is being silly (I speak as a 23yo!)

ItsGone · 10/07/2017 16:37

I think you can only buy it if you can use your gears properly GrinGrinGrin

Anyone can wear whatever they want. Apart from Crocs, obviously. A poster after my own heart. Crocs, particularly with socks, is the only unacceptable attire.

MsHopey · 10/07/2017 16:41

Do It!!! Yours gonna look badass. No way is 50 too old to wear what you want!!!

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2017 16:42

There are some lovely, lovely, lovely cycling jerseys out there. Are you thinking about the Cyclology ones? Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for my bank balance, very few of the lovey Morvelo/Chapeau etc trendy jerseys fit tall women with broad shoulders and big boobs.

CMOTDibbler · 10/07/2017 16:44

Wear what you love! My dh has a Cycology jersey (I think thats the brand you are looking at) and I have one in a peacock print I love

MTBMummy · 10/07/2017 16:51

YWBU not to post a link to it

But get it, sounds great!
(Said as a fellow older cyclist)

HipsterHunter · 10/07/2017 16:53

Get the fancy cycling jersey and enjoy it.

The whole point of teenage daughters it to tell their mums they are embarrassing.

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2017 16:55

I wear crocs. not in public.

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2017 16:56

the daughter isn't a teenager.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/07/2017 17:00

I wear crocs. not in public. still not convinced. Grin
