Aunty or Auntie

I always write Aunty but I seem to be the only person who does. Should it be Auntie? AIBU to stick to Aunty?

Either one is fine

MaidOfStars · 07/07/2017 11:35

Either, and I use both interchangeably. Probably tending to Aunty more frequently.

ReinettePompadour · 07/07/2017 11:37

Aunty for me, well I actually prefer Aunt but would spell it Aunty if asked.

elQuintoConyo · 07/07/2017 11:37

I have two aunts with -ie name endings, so i use Auntie for them, eg Auntie Minnie. For others I use Aunty.

  • i do not have an Auntie Minnie!
Louiselouie0890 · 07/07/2017 11:37

I was aunty but sister always puts auntie so presumed I was wrong

NataliaOsipova · 07/07/2017 11:39

I say Auntie, but I think it's a purely optional point. It's just a diminutive form of aunt. Think "Katie" and "Katy".

PurpleChai · 07/07/2017 11:39

I know someone who writes it as antie shudders basically writing it as they say it in their regional accent!

JeffreySadsacIsUnwell · 07/07/2017 11:45

I use both, but Aunty for someone with an -ie name and Auntie for a -y name.

No idea why, I just don't like the repetition!

BertAndKhloe · 07/07/2017 11:45

I use both spellings for the same people Confused

MadisonAvenue · 07/07/2017 11:46

I use Aunty.

Redglitter · 07/07/2017 11:46

I'm an Auntie has never occurred to me to spell it any other way

RainbowPastel · 07/07/2017 12:19

Auntie.

nina2b · 07/07/2017 12:22

Auntie.

BackforGood · 07/07/2017 12:29

Either is fine, but, we always use Aunty

IloveBanff · 07/07/2017 12:38

It's always been Auntie to me, never Aunty, which looks wrong IMO.

Seren85 · 07/07/2017 12:40

I have always used Auntie. It never occurred to me to spell it differently. However DH uses Aunty and says it never occurred to him to spell it any other way. Both are fine.

InDubiousBattle · 07/07/2017 12:41

I use Aunty, both for myself and my aunties. Except for one who has always preferred to be aunt. I really hate it written down! Always think it should be Anty.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 07/07/2017 13:32

Cool, I'll stick with Aunty then. I do like Aunt but I have quite an old-fashioned name irl so I'd sound like a Dickens character if I did that.

Threetoedsloth · 07/07/2017 13:37

Auntie, but merely because I prefer the way it looks.

Whiterabbitears · 07/07/2017 14:11

I think both are correct but I have always automatically used Auntie, I'm not sure why though.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2017 14:12

I think of myself as Auntie, but both are correct.

TroysMammy · 07/07/2017 14:16

I'm and Auntie and I've always had Aunties. I think you can get more gifts with "Fabulous Auntie" on which is what I am. Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 07/07/2017 14:19

I've always used/been Aunty.

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2017 14:21

Both are now starting to look weird Grin

missiondecision · 07/07/2017 15:16
