To have reported this in the airport

Waiting in the departure lounge at the airport yesterday and a man sat a few seats down from us repeatedly got up and left his rucksack. He did it the first time and walked over to the toilets, I thought ok fair enough, not something I would do though.
Then he did it a second time a few minutes later, but just walked off out of sight. Nerves started to kick in so I moved DCs away and found a member of staff to report it to, who removed it.
DP said I was over reacting, but I think leaving your bag unattended repeatedly in an airport is totally inappropriate! WIBU for reporting it?

No you were not unreasonable. If I remember correctly there are notices in airports and such like not to leave bags unattended.

Not sure Nancy - I moved DC to other side and was distracted. It wasn't there when we walked past to board about 30 mins later.

So I assume they removed it but not sure how.

I always report. Had to report a bag left at Kings X, a few days after 7/7.

You did the right thing. Imagine if it was something and you hadn't reported it. We put lives in danger so as not to offend one bloke

I think you over reacted.
The BA departure lounges have left luggage shelves where you can stash your bag while you go shopping etc, so clearly they don't think there is much risk in leaving bags unattended, and I wonder if the man was only doing it to reserve his seat.

....but he was in the departure lounge. Talk about an overreaction. I think you need to calm down and stop ruining other people's holidays. I hope this man was reunited with his bag promptly.

You can surely see the difference between that, and a bag that has been through full airport screening and is about to be allowed onto a plane

Fair enough to report an unattended bag pre-security, but I wouldn't in the departure lounge.

Am a bit interested though OP in how the man looked? Did that have any effect on you reporting or not?

How do you think explosives get in planes (or airports), then, sparechange? Everything that goes in them goes through full security. People who want to to get bombs on planes(or in airports) find new ways to disguise them. It is entirely sensible to report unattended baggage in an airport

Well the member of staff to whom the OP reported it will have known that the man had been through security, so isn't it up to them to decide on what action, if any, to take?

When did explosives last get onto a plane via a passenger carrying them on through an airpot? Years? Decades?

As I said, if you go into any BA lounge in any country, there will be a rack shelves and coat rails, where passengers are encouraged to leave their bags while they either sit on the sofas in the lounge, or go back into the main airport to go shopping.
I imagine it is the same for every other airline lounge

Clearly, the airlines and airport wouldn't let this happen if there was any concern about people leaving bags unaccompanied.
