To have reported this in the airport

Waiting in the departure lounge at the airport yesterday and a man sat a few seats down from us repeatedly got up and left his rucksack. He did it the first time and walked over to the toilets, I thought ok fair enough, not something I would do though.
Then he did it a second time a few minutes later, but just walked off out of sight. Nerves started to kick in so I moved DCs away and found a member of staff to report it to, who removed it.
DP said I was over reacting, but I think leaving your bag unattended repeatedly in an airport is totally inappropriate! WIBU for reporting it?

Not all bombers are suicide bombers, pigs.

Having worked in aviation security, you definitely did the right thing. Good on you.

No I know that, but my point is that as suicide bombers stay with their bombs anyone on the plane could be carrying explosives. Luggage that's left on it's own is no more likely to explode than any of your fellow passengers, anyone of which could have explosive strapped to their bodies.

That was in reply to Cardibach*

I can't believe everyone is being so dismissive of safety protocols to keep us safe. I'd report every time!

GreyWalls · 01/07/2017 23:28

I would have done the same Sad

crouchenddadder · 01/07/2017 23:30

The lounge is more or less a private area and I would not report an unattended bag here.
Seriously, was every other traveler taking their coat and suitcase to the loo and to the salad bar?

INeedANameChange · 01/07/2017 23:39

YANBU... you're encouraged to report it!

SnickersWasAHorse · 01/07/2017 23:41

The op was not in a lounge. She was in the departure hall.

I guess all the people saying that you over reacted didn't grow up in the 70s and 80s when there were not even bins in public places and constant reminders to report suspicious packages.

It was a tiny non-European island airport. Not the BA Lounge in Heathrow

So a very low risk for terrorist threat?

See now if I was a terroist hell bent on blowing shit up and pissing of as many people as I could I'd get on a flight out of a tiny airport with security far more lax than Heathrow. I'd get on a plane to the uk, France, New York or wherever and blow it up as it was coming in to land, right over a nice big capital.
