To adopt a stray cat halfway through a pregnancy??

A couple of weeks back a stray cat wondered in to our garden. She was skinny and covered in fleas and looking very sorry for herself. For a week I fed her twice a day but wouldn't let her in to the house and always thoroughly washed my hands after petting her (paranoid about catching something whilst 20 weeks pregnant!) I tried to find her owner but failed.

So I took her to the vets to see if she was microchipped. They told.me she wasn't and was about 2 weeks from having kittens Shock

So I brought her flea drops etc and brought her home to put her in the garden. I had become very attached to her... I love animals anyway but she has such a lovely nature and I had fallen in love with her!!
But as she was about to have kittens and the only safe place for her to have them would be in the house, I decided that it wasn't a good idea for us (again, due to possible toxoplasmosis risk etc not just from her but from her kittens) to keep her and took her to the cats protection league.

I had been keeping in touch with the woman who is fostering her and apparently it turns out she isn't pregnant after all (vet checked)! So they are making sure she is chipped and neutered and will send her to a rehoming centre. The vet said she is about 5 years old apparently. So after that rather long (And hopefully not boring!) Story, WIBU to bring her back?? She had become very attached to me and DH... plus we already have a cat flap (was there when we moved in) and I am fully aware that it would be for life and how long cats live for... plus any litter tray use would be sorted out by DH while I am pregnant (he has become very attached to her also)
I hate the thought of her being stuck in a rehoming centre and possibly not being rehomed and I know we would be able to give her a loving home here... would I be taking too much on?? I have no other pets or children.

JamPasty · 09/07/2017 14:04

Superb!!

kali110 · 09/07/2017 14:05

She looks so happy! I agree about the misinformation.
When my friends got pregnant ( ones with cats) all the families kept asking were "what are you going to do with the cat then?"Confused
Er nothing..

WowserBowser · 09/07/2017 14:14

Oh Babs! How lovely

SoupDragon · 09/07/2017 14:35

Yay for Babs :)

Although the look on her face says "this blanket is MINE. TOuch it at your peril"

Doesn't it just.

TheCakeCrusader · 09/07/2017 17:27

Pretty cat- well done on adopting her!

All my cats were rescue/ unwanted cats too (except my first childhood one Smile)

MsHopey · 09/07/2017 19:33

This post has made my day.
Glad I got to read it all in one go rather than being on the edge of my seat waiting for it all to work out.
Definitely got a tear in my eye, but I'm overly sensitive and 36 weeks pregnant, so that's my excuse.

ethelfleda · 09/07/2017 19:40

MsHopey glad Babs bought some happiness to your day Smile
And congrats on your pregnancy! Obviously I sympathise Wink

beepbeeprichie · 09/07/2017 22:05

Aw Babs you're a beauty!
And as for you OP, you're a wee gem. You've made my day. What a lovely person you are!

Resideria · 09/07/2017 22:08

What a heartwarming story!

Fergus425 · 09/07/2017 22:10

Ha! Look at her!!

I have 6 cats and every single one of them has refused to come out from under the bed in the spare for days after we've brought them home.

She's been there half an hour and literally looks like she owns the place!!!

😻😻😻😻

Fergus425 · 09/07/2017 22:11

ethelfleda · 09/07/2017 22:21

Haha Fergus I wonder if it is because she chose us Smile
Even DH is smitten and he would never admit to being an animal lover!
Honestly our house does feel more like a home with her here how soppy
