WIBU - DH or I?

Wasn't sure how to word the title, so gave up Grin

We have a 3 day old son. We like 2 boys name (1 we absolutely adore and the other we just like and tbh, it's a new like unlike the other one which we have adored for years, so more likely to live in years to come).

However, the female version of the name is the only girls name we like atm, so I think we should save it and go with the boys name we like so we will always have at least 1 girls name we like.

DH thinks we should go with the boys name we love because we actually do have a son right now and that we may never get a girl/have more, etc.

Who is right?

We need to know the names Grin and congratulations too Flowers

AddictedToDrPepper · 25/06/2017 23:51

Your DH

Bringmewineandcake · 25/06/2017 23:51

DH Grin sorry!
You might never have a girl, and your tastes will likely change between Dc1 and 2 so you might not even like the girls name any more by the time you get to DC2.
Congrats on your newborn Flowers

AddictedToDrPepper · 25/06/2017 23:51

*your DH is right. Sorry clumsy fingers tonight

Moanyoldcow · 25/06/2017 23:52

Your DH. You have no idea if you'll have more and if they'll be girls.

You'll always find a name you like.

MadameJosephine · 25/06/2017 23:52

I agree with him, your son is here right now so why save a name you love for a hypothetical future child? Just give it to the child you already have

WonderLime · 25/06/2017 23:53

Congratulations!

I'm inclined to say DS. If you do go on to have a DD in the future, I'm sure you will think of lots of other lovely names.

But ultimately, what do you think suits your DS then best?

pinkyredrose · 25/06/2017 23:53

Oliver/Olivia? I agree with your DH, you've got a boy and a boys name you love - joining the dots is easy!

WonderLime · 25/06/2017 23:54

Sorry, DH*

DoJo · 25/06/2017 23:55

Go with the name you adore, and congratulations!

MairzyDoats · 25/06/2017 23:56

None of the potential girls' names I chose for my second baby were the same as the ones I chose for my first. Both babies were boys so I never got to use them anyway. Use the name you love, there are thousands of names you can choose from in future.

MommaGee · 25/06/2017 23:57

Sorry Op, DH is right.

"Mom how did you pick my name?"
"Well it's the one we liked second best"
" why second best?"
"We saved the one we liked best for your sister"
" but I don't have a sister!"

asdfghjklmnbvcxz · 25/06/2017 23:57

It's Theo/Thea Smile no negative comments please GrinGrin damn! I guess he wins then!!

I agree with your DH too. Your new DS deserves the name you love, not just an alright one that you're happy to settle for! I have 4 children, but each time the name list has had different choices on it as opinions change, you find new names, so your next hypothetical child will have an equally loved name.

UnicornSparkles1 · 26/06/2017 00:01

DH is right I'm afraid. Congratulations on your little man Flowers

HicDraconis · 26/06/2017 00:03

Go with your DH, sorry.

I had a similar situation in having a name picked for my DD. We have two fab boys and an agreement from the start that we'd only have 2 children.

You may never have a daughter to use your name, but right now you have a gorgeous baby boy and a name you love. Let him have it :-)

(Theo is a fabulous name by the way! Much nicer for a boy than Thea for a girl - imvho ;) )

Sashkin · 26/06/2017 00:05

Which name suits him best? Pick that one.

There's no point in "saving" names in case of future daughters - you could easily end up with two boys. And tastes change - I would never have picked DS's name before he was born, but it suits him perfectly.

MommaGee · 26/06/2017 00:06

I adore adore adore Thea but maintain my position. Theo is lovely too. What is the second choice name?

MommaGee · 26/06/2017 00:06

Is he going to be a Theodore?

Crispbutty · 26/06/2017 00:09

Lovely name. Go with your DH.

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 00:11

Please let it be Bertha

5LiveSportsExtra · 26/06/2017 00:13

Ah, big reveal already. What a disappointment.
Go with Theo, lovely name and your DH is right

Ellie56 · 26/06/2017 00:14

Love Theo

MsPassepartout · 26/06/2017 00:14

I agree with your DH. Give your DS the name you love.
Don't "save" the name for a DD that you may never have.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 26/06/2017 00:16

I don't see why, if you did have a future daughter, you couldn't call her Thea whilst also having your son named Theo. Given the likelihood they will end up with all sorts of nicknames throughout life, they may not end up using their given name that often anyway.
Even if they strictly get called their given name only, Theo and Thea are different names, a TV show i used to watch had twins named Sepio and Sepia, it never seemed weird to me.
