One has just opened in town and it just doesn't give the same satisfaction as skimming through the catalogue or website .....

I mean - so many of their items you "just have to have" because they're nicely photographed and come with a little legend and quotes that Mrs B of Norton - Cum - Chewing or wherever just can't live without it .... but in reality it's a gubbings on a shelf in the shop !

What is Lakeland?

DANCESwithaTruckLoadOfMiniEggs · 21/03/2007 16:09

Oh no, I love the one at Bluewater...try not to go in though, it's just too tempting - all that tupperware (sigh)

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:10

Is it like Wilkinsons?

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:13

Now powder - surely you have come across Lakeland??

Anyway here it is - you have been warned!

It's down where they have done up the post office bit in Bath - Old Bond St

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:14

Really? I havnt noticed it. Is it near the new post office or the old one?

DANCESwithaTruckLoadOfMiniEggs · 21/03/2007 16:14

mind you, wilkinsons is great for craft stuff

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:16

Wilkinsons is great for cheap cleaning stuff etc and watching harrassed women shouting at their children

Lucycat · 21/03/2007 16:18

imo Lakeland have the best customer service bar none - ours, near Wilmslow is full of Ladies Who Lunch, very respectable and the cafe is truly delightful!

I do like the catalogues though

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:18

Opposite Karen Millen / shabbitat - where they've been doing up the post office!

Itlooks like somewhere I can buy lots of stuff and NOT use, like a lot of the stuff in my kitchen. Knees is like an alladins cave of kitchenware and other stuff also.
Have you been into knees yeahinaminute?

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:20

Do you think Lakeland the kitchen gadget equivalent of Bodens ???

OP posts:
powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:20

Actually I think i went past it when it was still closed.

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:21

Is Knees the lovely family Dept store come junky "oh my God they still sell that" shop in Trowbridge ??

OP posts:
KathyMCMLXXII · 21/03/2007 16:21

I see your point, Yeahinaminute.
You can spend hours browsing the catalogue but the actual going in isn't really that exciting.
With me it's partly because I wouldn't ever really pay some of their prices (especially for the edible things) and going in forces me to face that fact.

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:22

Yes I live in Trowbridge. I can never believe what i find in there either!

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:23

It's all wrong nothing is half as exciting as you think it's going to be !

OP posts:
yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:24

Every time I've been in there powder I feel as though there is still an "old Mr Knee" sat in a wood lined office over seeing the family business - a la Grace Bros

OP posts:
laughingduck · 21/03/2007 16:27

Lucycat, the Lakeland in Handforth is full of old ladies and tupperwear - the dses hate it in there and dd just about tolerates it. They do nice lunches though .

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:27

Isnt Mr Knee still alive? All the staff in there are probably related to him in some way, they are of a certain age.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2007 16:28

The best one EVER is in Perth.

I love it, I do!

yeahinaminute · 21/03/2007 16:31

There's probably " Young" Mr Knee - 65, "Old" Mr Knee - 101, "Master" Knee - 42 !!!

OP posts:
powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:34

What about grandpa Knee, uncle knee, and all their wives.

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 16:36

I've never seen the catalogue... had never heard of them until they opened near us.

But its soooo peaceful in there.

She tried to give me a catalogue with my shopping but I explained that it wouldn't be safe

powder28 · 21/03/2007 16:42

My mum just told me that Mrs Knee IS still alive, and she knows her son Henry!
