Just that, really Blush. I realise that this is my decision but just wanted to gauge the feeling of all you lovely people.

Also, for those that have had it done— any good news? Bad news?

Thanks ladies and gents.

Stevie xx

Nah.

You'll make yourself go cross-eyed trying to look at it.

Ginmakesitallok · 19/06/2017 20:33

Oh god! I can't be the only one who read that, bit my tongue gently and thought "fuck that for a game of soldiers"?

Floggingmolly · 19/06/2017 20:35

It looks the most uncomfortable thing possible. Don't understand it, it would drive me nuts.

EdmundCleverClogs · 19/06/2017 20:35

I know two people who've had them done. One no problem, one took quite while to heal. Both managed to swallow a bit of the piercing at some point and needed to replace the ball/bar....

AnotherOneBitesTheMustard · 19/06/2017 20:35

I used to want my tongue pierced but never ended up doing it. (Got my nipple done instead).

Tbh, I am glad I didn't. I have met people with bad teeth damage from it. A friend of mine had hers done and she spoke with a lisp for quite a while and couldn't eat properly. It healed fine but she took it out after a few months. I think she just got fed up with it.

I ended up having to remove all my body piercings, including earrings, a few years ago. I suddenly turned allergic to everything!

DimplesToadfoot · 19/06/2017 20:35

I had mine done, over 20 years ago, I loved it, everyone talked about it and asked to see it, it was absolutely fantastic until one day I bit on it and broke 2 teeth, I had to have them taken out,

if I could go back in time I would never have had it done, I don't miss the tongue stud, I do miss my teeth :-(

Mamabear14 · 19/06/2017 20:36

I had it done for years. Didn't hurt having it done but it did swell for a few days after. I ate a lot of spaghetti! It was a ballache eating and suddenly crunching on the ball, it hurts, and I eventually took it out after about 8 years or so when it embedded in the underneath of my tongue (the bottom ball completely disappeared into my tongue and I had to push it out)
Do miss it sometimes though.

Sugarformyhoney · 19/06/2017 20:36

I hadn't mine done at 18. The actual process wasn't painful but afterwards it swelled and hurt like a bitch. I took it out a few years later but it's still pierced and I could put it back in. Once it healed I had no issues with it.

Sugarformyhoney · 19/06/2017 20:36

*had

fannydaggerz · 19/06/2017 20:36

I had it done years ago, i had to take my bar out when I had surgery.

I didn't have any issues, I miss it actually.

Singingbird · 19/06/2017 20:37

It'll knacker your teeth. My Ex is a dentist, most people have them removed due to chipping bits off their teeth, according to his experience.

Offherhead · 19/06/2017 20:37

Front or further back? That's what everyone will be checking for. Sex thing. I personally don't like to advertise to all my predilections but I am a bit of a wuss.
If that is just water off a ducks back then go for it.

OnceMoreIntoTheBleach · 19/06/2017 20:38

Saw it done on TV once. The noise alone was enough to put me off.

Sidge · 19/06/2017 20:40

I used to work in A&E and then have worked in primary care.

I've lost count of the number of infected tongue piercings I've seen...

stevie69 · 19/06/2017 20:41

Sex thing

Just Googling 'sex'. It's been a while (despite my seeming to attract quite a bit of attention from 30-something guys) Wink

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems as if it could be a non-starter. Is there anything else completely age inappropriate that I could do as an alternative? Grin

It bloody well hurts! ... and I I have 4 chipped teeth as a reminder of my 'wild' twenties!

WidowWadman · 19/06/2017 20:44

I took mine out after a couple of years as it was not good for my rather brittle teeth

LOL. This is the start of my 'wild fifties'. I'm a late starter ...... Blush

I still have mine done, got it done about 10 years ago. I love it but have swallowed multiple bars/balls in my time!

Liverbird77 · 19/06/2017 20:46

My dentist told me never to get it done. Aside from chipped teeth it can cause myriad infections.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/06/2017 20:48

My mum got her navel piercing in her fifties. I would go for nipple instead cos i love mine, belly was annoying. How about a nice sparkly tragus or conch (ear) they're pretty.

n0ne · 19/06/2017 20:48

I'm of the generation where many of my peers got this done, and I nearly did at one point myself. Be prepared to swallow the ball off it at some point (not actually that big a deal) and potentially chipping a tooth or two (less good). If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

Oysterbabe · 19/06/2017 20:50

I had it done and had no issues. I took it out after a few years though. I hear it fucks your teeth.

sexcauldron · 19/06/2017 20:50

I have mine done and I wear a plastic bar so no teeth damage. Didn't hurt to have it done, the healing was hard work though. Cried from hunger and frustration. This was about a year ago and I don't regret it now.

Teatowelfairy · 19/06/2017 20:52

I had mine done when I was 16, it was actually a present from my DM. But I don't have it anymore.
Mine was further back so a lot of people who I'd known for years didn't even realise I had it.
It hurt but was over quickly, however I had it done without it being numbed as the piercer said that the tongue swelled more with the anaesthetic than without. Obviously I don't know if there's actually any truth to that.
