stevie69 · 19/06/2017 20:30

Just that, really Blush. I realise that this is my decision but just wanted to gauge the feeling of all you lovely people.

Also, for those that have had it done— any good news? Bad news?

Thanks ladies and gents.

I loved mine and struggle to remember why I took it out (something about having a baby).

Mine healed super quickly and never got infected but I was pretty keen on piercings so was careful.

I swapped my metal bar for plastic asap to avoid teeth damage.

Top tip: DO NOT GET INTO THE HABBIT OF HOLDING BETWEEN YOUR FRONT TEETH - that's what goes for the teeth. Learn to spin it on your palette instead.

Thekitten · 19/06/2017 20:54

I wouldn't advise a tongue piercing cause of the potential damage to your teeth, however if you want to go wild, what about nipples, or dare I say it, a VCH? The latter don't always last that long though and you have to go to a reputable place to make sure they do the hood and not the clit itself! Personally I'd go for nipples!

stevie69 · 19/06/2017 20:54

My mum got her navel piercing in her fifties. I would go for nipple instead cos i love mine, belly was annoying. How about a nice sparkly tragus or conch (ear) they're pretty.

Right, here's my truth. My ears are so NOT the most attractive thing about me. They stick out—only a bit, but they do. And ..... I shave my head. It's super easy to maintain, is always a talking point and acts as an amazing filter against the type of guys that I don't like. (Men who love my shaved head TEND to be ..... well, I tend to like them shall we say?

For that reason, I'd like to have a piercing lower down than the ears—to draw attention away from them Blush

Had mine pierced from being 15 when I was 19 my dentist informed me I must have been grinding it in my sleep because my teeth were starting too become damaged. He said tongue bar or teeth - you choose. Removed the tongue bar and never put it back in and my teeth are fine Grin

MelinaMercury · 19/06/2017 20:55

Do it if you want, I know lots of people who have it done and most them have been fine.

My cousin however had it done and had to get his tongue lanced after 3 months as it randomly swole up around the piercing which restricted his breathing.

If you do get it done please done become one of those annoying people who stick their tongue out in every photo or walk about chewing the bloody ball like your tongue can't fit in your mouth. It's really fecking irritating.

needsomesunshineandwine · 19/06/2017 20:56

I got mine done teenage years 13+ years ago. Mine took forever to heal, I woke up one morning and blood all over my face as I must of ripped it in my sleep. I lost about 1 stone as I couldn't eat.

I had to keep buying balls as I'd swallow them, took it out a year or two later. Doubt I'll let my children get it done as I'm not that keen on it anymore 😏

FlibbertigibbetArmadillo · 19/06/2017 20:57

Had mine done over 10 years ago. Still in. No chipped teeth. Healed pretty quick. In fact no issues at all. Will take it out at some point but currently when I take it out to clean I miss it.
No idea what the front or back thing means sex wise (I had it done at 18 because I liked it, not for kinky reasons) but mine is quite far back so you can't really see it when I talk. Had friends who have only realised after years that I had it when they did something to earn a sticky out tongue face Grin

PenguinBollard · 19/06/2017 20:58

I had it done. Can't remember why. I was 16, seemed like a good idea at the time. Repierced it several times myself (ouch) and now I can get a bar through after months of not wearing one.
I sometimes bite it and that's unpleasant.
I have been known to swallow the piercing...

I could take it or leave it now, though I'm not sure how I had the balls to do it in the first place.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/06/2017 20:59

Skin divers? DD1 got one in the middle of her chest, sort of above her cleavage.

NormaNameChange · 19/06/2017 21:00

Naval, Nipples, or as someone said upthread... a VCH. I LOVE mine, took a little while to get used to the additional stimulation and healed in about three days. A naval piercing is a bit more bother during the healing process but is something you can 'flash' if you fancy it.. unlike the VCH - at least not in polite company :)

OhOurBilly · 19/06/2017 21:01

I had mine done, it was fine, never had a problem with it. My Dm made me take it out last year when I was pregnant "because you'll be a grown up mum now OurBilly" she had never approved of it. I spent 5 years telling her the ball was stuck and would never come off, that failed when my dad went and fetched the long nose pliers. (I'm 30 and married)

Getting it pierced was the best diet I've ever been on though, it was swelled for a week, and tender for a while after. The actual piercing didn't hurt, it's more of a weird sensation because when they clamp it, every fibre of your being is telling you to retract your tongue to the safety of your gob! 3 seconds and it's over and done with. I had a lisp for ages though when I was getting used to it.

Ferrynice · 19/06/2017 21:02

What about skin divers or microdermals on your chest or collar bone ?

Nancy91 · 19/06/2017 21:02

I've had mine for 10 years and it is perfectly comfortable. I actually speak really strangely without it so I don't take it out. Hasn't damaged my teeth or anything. Also my partner is a fan Blush

Singyourheartout · 19/06/2017 21:02

I have had mine down twice. Doesn't hurt one bit!
Go for it! If you don't like it you can let it close up

Areyoufree · 19/06/2017 21:03

I had it done. Loved it, but it ruined my teeth.

Nancy91 · 19/06/2017 21:04

Although I must say it did hurt, there is no way of having someone stick a needle through your tongue without it hurting I'm afraid Grin

Elphame · 19/06/2017 21:06

How about a philtrum ( that bit between your nose and mouth). You can get some stunningly pretty jewellery for them or one of the lip piecings?

I have a gold and diamond stud in my nose btw

stevie69 · 19/06/2017 21:06

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the advice very much Smile

Go for it!

I had mine done about 10 years ago now, other than for hospital stays this week is the first time it's been out and that's only because I burnt my tongue really awkwardly and it was irritating it.
My mouth feels really strange without a tongue bar in it now. You will however swallow countless balls and a few bars. Make sure you have a stash of spares (I bought a pack of 10 which has lasted a few years).

motherinferior · 19/06/2017 21:09

If you don't want your tongue done, I recommend a nose piercing. Had mine done at 52 and it is very, very pretty and sparkly.

stevie69 · 19/06/2017 21:09

I have an aquamarine stud in my nose and a Medusa already. The tongue just seems contentious somehow and I wanted to see what you thought.

I'f fine with the actual process; it's more the after effects that I'm concerned with.

I wouldn't do it myself as I'm a total wuss about pain and I'm scared of needles

But if you want it then go for it! If you have any issues with teeth or whatever then you can deal with them. But you might not have any issues.

Don't they say you regret the things you didn't do far more than the things you did do?

Sallystyle · 19/06/2017 21:14

I had it done years ago. Didn't hurt at all but I couldn't stand the swelling so took it out

I had my nipple done a few weeks ago and that shit hurt but I adore it.

LilaBard · 19/06/2017 21:23

Dental Nurse (and piercing fan) here - don't do it! Aside from the chipped teeth, some people get into a habit of running it along the inside of the lower front teeth, which can wear away the gum and make your teeth loose. And once that happens it's goodnight teeth, hello denture. Or implants if you're loaded.
OP if you want something to draw attention from other areas, how about septum? I had mine done and it was painless (apart from when I would change my shirt and smack myself up the nose)

Ridingthegravytrain · 19/06/2017 21:24

Had it done in my late teens. Had it in for a year or so then had to take it it overnight for an operation and never was able to get it back in again

Tried to get it re pierced but the guy said my veins were too close together under my tongue and I never should have had it done in the first place!
