To not tip the Ocado driver?

Just as a bit of background - I am usually the type of person who will leave a tip. I always tip my beautician, my hairdresser and the girl who washes my hair, in restaurants and the usual people at Christmas ( postman, bin men). However I have never thought to tip the Ocado driver, until my last delivery when there was that awkward 'deliberate pause' moment - exactly like on films - when it was obvious that I was meant to be tipping the guy. I've never noticed it on any other occasion but I'm panicking now as I've got a delivery due later and I don't know if I'm expected to tip them?

Dirty in a REALLY REALLY good way I bet! I wish I'd ever had cause to perform a minor service for a Saudi princeling.

yolo hairdressers are also not really paid as well as you like to make out/think- the £40 you pay for a haircut doesn't all go to them you know?! (unless they own the salon).

Love the non-tippers excuses list, spot on Smile

Mine are friendly but always seem n a hurry to get cracking to the next house......unless it's me that's actually frightening them off?!Hmm

They're all in London for the Ramadan Rush right now Squoosh. Racing around Knightsbridge in their Bugatti Veyrons. Patronising us with their filthy money...

We don't tip and quite often the deliverer has to hump them up our steep hill as they don't fancy the tight reverse (doable in a transit, so their van would be fine).

They get paid.

For those who tip tour delivery drivers do you also tip the person who picked the shopping or the person who loaded it onto the van.

I know someone who works as a supermarket picker, they are paid minimum wage. It is a hard job. There is a lot of heavy lifting. Time targets. Customers to negotiate as well as deal with any queries.

A lot of industries pay just minimum wage but not a lot of industries receive tips. I think tipping is outdated.

I only tip at Christmas too.

I dont tip regularly though.

I've got my first ocado delivery this week so will be thinking of something to say if I also get the deliberate pause.

I use Sainsbury's also and have conditioned them to stay outside too! Grin

No. Seeing as I, y'know, don't have any actual contact with them.

There are lots of times when I don't tip people who might traditionally expect a tip - hairdressers or taxi drivers, mostly. That's more often because I'm a bit short than because they've given me a bad hair cut or taken me the long way round.

But I don't tell myself that it's an act of egalitarianism or wonder why I don't get things for free - actually, as a journalist I get loads of freebies.

But no matter how short of money I am I always tip waiters and the women who wax my minge.

Tipping Ocado drivers 2019
Hello everyone , to clarify I work at the Park Royal depot , we deliver primarily to the City and central London. The official line is the drivers for tax reasons are not alowed to recieve tips and we dont expect or try to badger customers into giving them . Having said that we find that American customers regardless of the amount of shopping will tip . We deliver to houses for eg Labroke Grove where you have to lug up water say 18 1ltrs of water 5 flights of stairs along with the rest of the shopping, What we appreicate is that you have your bags ready so as to not hold us up, DO NOT make the driver wait whilst you unpack your shopping, these people are called " serial unpackers", by us we will pick up the new bags on your next delivery. Driving in London is stressful enough and we are battling all the time to keep to the hourly time slots. Make a note of your drivers name he should tell you and it is also on your invoice and take a minute to give positive feedback online . We are genually nice drivers, ps we make notes about unfriendly dogs and unfriendly customers so it works both ways
Thanks Ocado man
