something strange is going on isn't it?

New neighbours moved in a few months ago. A couple and I think 3 children. Lots of stuff was moved in toys etc etc.
Then they went and didn't see anyone for a few days ...never actually saw the mother and children again just saw a man return a few days after
Some parcels arrived which I took in-maybe 4 in the space of a week, picked up by various people all very polite and nice. I assumed relatives.

Then....nothing. Literally nothing. Never see anyone. Never hear anyone. Terraced houses so you always hear front doors closing....nothing.
Had someone knock twice asking if I knew were next door in.
The weird thing is we NEVER see the children, apart from that first moving in day-they never are around at school time morning or aft and were school age. Perhaps they are home schooled I thought?
Never ever in the garden.

Once I stepped outside and the other side of the fence I heard somebody rush back in so there is somebody there. It's just eerily quiet.
We've had by mistake a fair bit of post too and there seem to be a few adults living there if the post is anything to go by. I just put it through the door the first couple of times then with the last three I've knocked but no answer so then posted it.

AIBU to think it's strange?

The daughter also wore the same, she looked about 8 or 9 I'd guess but only aware her the once so I'm pretty sure they are a Muslim family. I'm not just making a wild guess. Religion aside I'd be thinking it was strange regardless that there's nobody there

It's not unusual for a newly married muslim couple to buy a house and do it up very slowly whilst living at his parents house.
However this does not sound like that.

At the very least you have a family property not being used by a family and that needs reporting.

showergel1 · 28/05/2017 15:26

If it's council that is.

MrNobodytheNeighbour · 28/05/2017 15:27

It was a good few weeks of decorating initially before moving in

MrNobodytheNeighbour · 28/05/2017 15:28

The council here don't do any of that you have to do it yourself and claim a decoration allowance

Maybe the tennant is a do who only has partial custody of children, but this has broken down, and they are with other DP full time in the interim?

Buxtonstill · 28/05/2017 15:49

Is a DP

thatdearoctopus · 28/05/2017 16:06

Are you still able to qualify for a council house if you only have your children residing with you part-time?

Andrewofgg · 28/05/2017 16:44

I don't see how reporting can turn out otherwise than badly for you. Quite apart from revenge attacks, at the moment you've got ideal neighbours. Quiet, no blocked drives, no smell of weed. Don't meddle.

LaLegue · 28/05/2017 17:12

Nonsense. Considering she's had no run-in with the neighbours they won't have the foggiest idea who has reported them. And for what? It's not like they are having massive raves every weekend, is it?

Anyone who is living there less than legally will always be half expecting a knock on the door anyway.

BettyRooster · 28/05/2017 17:22

Weed growing smells. Most growers would have fans and filters to prevent the odor from spreading. Every few months, the weed would have to be cut and trimmed. This generates a lot of plant waste. The occupants would be removing potentially dozens of bin bags of branches, leaves, etc. plus soil or whatever they grew then in.The windows will be blacked out. There would be someone tending to the daily needs of the plants, making sure the lights are working, there's enough water, and adding nutrients to the water. During the harvest more people are needed as it can take 8 people two or three days to cut and trim a medium bedroom-sized room of mature plants.

Rachie1986 · 28/05/2017 17:38

Placemarking incase we ever find out what went on (unlikely but you never know..)

NoMoreBones · 28/05/2017 18:01

I was thinking weed farm but Betty seems to know what she is on about.

thatdearoctopus · 28/05/2017 18:11

Am intrigued to know how Betty knows so much about it! Grin

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 29/05/2017 21:53

So much specific knowledge!

VanillaSugar · 29/05/2017 21:59

Something you need to tell us Betty?

neonfrog · 30/05/2017 01:01

Is there ever washing on the line? Does someone put the bin out/in?

avamiah · 30/05/2017 01:05

Just come across this thread and it sounds like one of those horror films.
I hope not .
😬

PossibiliTea · 30/05/2017 01:05

What sort of thing could you say to report them? It does sound strange I'm just curious

avamiah · 30/05/2017 01:10

Yes there is something not right and to be honest after what tragedy has happened in Manchester I think you should make a call and report this immediately.

Charlie97 · 30/05/2017 06:44

Dodgy dodgy ... report!

PainCanBeBeautiful · 30/05/2017 12:09

What would you report though? Genuinely asking as I wouldn't have a clue on what to say.

stella23 · 30/05/2017 12:17

We had something very similar same circumstances, the children were in care with family eventually they moved out when they were told children would stay with family indefinitely.

DoNotWakeTheDog · 30/05/2017 12:18

I showed this post to my brother yesterday, who work for the NCA. He was absolutely emphatic that you must report this to both the Housing Officer, AND the police. Anything could be going on in there. If the family are genuine, and haven't been able to move in for some reason, things will be easily resolved.
The letters for various adults are strange. DB thinks it is possibly being used/intended for illegal immigrants who either haven't moved in yet, or have been caught. At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, Salman Abedi was living quietly in a sublet council property. We must all be vigilant, - please report this, and don't let yourself be fobbed of if nothing changes, follow it through until you have some answers.

Youmademe · 01/06/2017 22:22

Maybe they're subletting it but leaving childrens toys there to make it look as if thy are living there. I have a fairly quiet child but he;s still noisy at times. Very weird if you don't hear or see anything.
