Bee Sex in my garden

Clutching my pearls here, but I have just watched two bees DTD in my garden. Respect to drones is all I can say. I had always assumed they did it in flight and it was a quicky, but this was on the ground and went on for longer than I would have thought, far longer than the people opposite in their car the other week anyhow, but that's another story......

I hope he put his wings around her for a nice cuddle when they had finished. .

viques · 26/05/2017 12:28

Sadly not, she sort of pushed him away with her legs and flew off. Then he flew off. I'm not even sure they exchanged names or phone numbers.

Probably a queen bee then about to go start her own hive. Sisters doing it for themselves. :)

Although probably he is just one drone in hundreds in the queue. Annd maybe it lasted so long because he knows that a) his penis MIGHT explode in her (as well as ejaculating) and then he will die minutes or hours later.

nellyfivebellies are you saying I have gay bees? It was definitely on the ground, I have to admit I didn't get close enough to examine genitalia, and am not sure what I would be looking for anyway with bees bits, I did think they were much of a size but assumed this was because although I know queens are bigger than workers I assumed drones would be more or less the same size as queens.

I'm not even sure they exchanged names or phone numbers.

But he'll give her a buzz later anyway.

viques · 26/05/2017 12:34

Smilepavlovian I think she already had a buzz, nudge nudge, wink winkEnvy

I have just seen two dragonflies going at it, i've seen them a few times over the last few days (or different ones? Kinda all look the same to me I'm ashamed to admit) but managed to get a pic today!

cheeeekyavocado · 26/05/2017 12:41

Ha we have horny pigeons here too! She's a tease, lets him get really close then flies off. Too be fair he is very determined and has about four attempts before she finally gives in!

SorrelSoup · 26/05/2017 12:56

I picked my dd up from nursery last week and she said she'd found 2 ladybirds and they were having a piggyback! Grin

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 26/05/2017 13:15

Geese shagging is violent too.

LurkingHusband · 26/05/2017 13:16

Fox sex is noisy ... very noisy.

EnidButton · 26/05/2017 13:18

There were two shield bugs shagging on my hedge last night. Left them to it. Seemed the polite thing to do.

Dabisadancemove · 26/05/2017 13:18

Just had two dragonflies fly into the house whilst DTD. It was quite alarming Shock

Dabisadancemove · 26/05/2017 13:20

It was the dragonflies having sex not me BTW Blush

This thread Grin I have to agree with a pp, pigeon sex must be the worst. At least we don't have lovebugs in this country, flying around, constantly fornicating, stuck all over people, animals, cars, buildings, everything with their sex-crazed selves.

saoirse31 · 26/05/2017 15:09

This is the nicest summeriest thread in a long time!!

I unfortunately have seen no activity in my garden...will keep watching....Smile

HornyTortoise · 26/05/2017 17:58

but this was on the ground and went on for longer than I would have thought,

You sat and watched til the end?! Grin

AnnieOH1 · 26/05/2017 18:02

You'll know it was a queen if you start finding lots of dead bees around the place. Seen it before in our old house, we kept finding dead bees all over drive (I mean maybe 50 every single day) I really thought it was someone using a pesticide, until the day I found the queen (a massive great thing) with a queue of bees waiting to DTD on my wall. Umm!

TheLegendOfBeans · 26/05/2017 18:04

@cheeeekyavocado

I truly read that as "while balancing on my face"

aaaaaaand I'm dead 😂
