Scooting in restaurants

So, went out for a meal the other day in a new restaurant that's opened up near me. It's a diner. The owner is very active in the local community, attached to the (slightly snobby and elitist) local primary. There were two mums in there with three kids who were running up and down the restaurant and causing havoc. The owner obviously knew them. They were screaming and mucking about in the toilets and then one of them got on a scooter and went up and down the middle of the restaurant floor! The women ignored the kids and so did the staff.
AIBU or shouldn't someone have told them off?! I was paying to eat in a restaurant, not a nursery and when I kept glaring the owner just shrugged!

I would have walked out without paying and told them why. I loathe these sort of parents. Mind you we usually head for child free places when ever possible. The places around our lovely new village are usually quite happy about having dogs in pubs, which we have no problem with at all

God that sounds stressful. I'd have dragged my DCs out by the ear if they dared do that!

Can you email them and complain?

WTF is wrong with some people that they this is acceptable. Two kids in the supermarket the other day had scooters and were causing havoc while the mum smiles proudly .

These kids have no chance when it comes to the real world, they are indulged by their parents so much they can't cope when they are told not to do something.
It's would be the same kind of mum who you would see daily mail with her son and the son has a sad face because he has been sent home from school for having bright green hair in a huge tuft on top of his head. The mum is going on and on about the school rules breeching his human rights and his right to be expressive

Now look: I know a lot of people think their dogs are intelligent but I've yet to meet anyone who claims to have a dog that can scoot. If you have one put it on YouTube, please!

Scooters seem to be everywhere now, I have almost been run over a couple of times in shops. Scooters should be in parks not inside.

The owner just shrugged. Well he won't do when he's sued because hot water falls on someone.
Also WTF are the parents thinking of
Allowing their children to run amock
in a potentially dangerous place.
If a waitress spills anything on them the parents will go hysterical, but yet it'll be their and the owners fault.
Is there any where you can go to complain. This is a serious breach of safe guarding

Also I can't wait to see and it will come some day soon. A mother in the paper with her son/daughter who has been sacked for breeching rules at work.
My sister once had a mum come into her work and complain that her daughter was not be treated fairly as she was not allowed to leave early one day.
I have also heard of a parent turning up with a kid for a job interview, they did not get it

Scooters are bad enough in shops but what kind of parents think it's ok for children to use them in the restaurant. I'd have told the staff they won't be having my custom again and followed up with an email just to sure it got back to the owner.

I'm not saying my dd is an Angel. Far far bloody from it, but She wouldn't have attempted to run around a restaurant. Causing havoc and danger. She had no choice. She had to behave at the table. End of story.

No and no. Ridiculous dangerous behaviour.

Having said that yesterday was in a park where a child of about 5 almost scooted straight in front of my legs (he wasn't looking but going fast, I swerved and saw him). His father when seeing him scoot towards me didn't say "oh be careful, watch where you're going" almost totally ignored me.

Compare and contrast with another child later on (similar age who almost ran into me), his father told him off in front of me, mildly with "we should watch out for other people" and "be careful" etc.

My mother who I saw at the weekend said she constantly sees children in her local "naice area" park chase the ducks, geese etc yelling etc and parents don't do anything. I'd have got told off a lot if i did that as a child!

I am a friend of a friend of the owner so I told her and hopefully she will tell her. Can't believe that some parents think it's acceptable to let their kids ruin everyone else's meal because they can't be arsed to parent properly!

This is when there is a deep dark part of me tempted to stick my foot out! I wouldn't, but still...

You can't really blame the restaurant. The parents of little shits like this tend to turn into raging cunts when you suggest that the bastards are doing something inconsiderate/dangerous/rude.

at Purple! Seriously though, this is one of my pet hates. I have lost count of the times I have witnessed near-misses in coffee shops,involving kids on scooters (or roller skates or heeleys) and customers carrying hot drinks. But you can guess who'd get the blame if a child did actually crash into someone and end up with hot coffee all over them....

Re.the dogs scooting upthread,our cat does this too,just after having a poo. Something to do with anal glands? (not envy!)

I was once in a shop when some kid came scootering up and past me in the freezer aisle. The mum and dad looked on longingly and how sweet little DC scootering along and nearly knocking people like me off their feet and only stopped when a worker told them it most categorically was not allowed.

I used to work for a wholesaler. The number of people who allowed their kids to climb on the massive freezers and then say "here's the lady, she'll tell you off". Tell your own bloody kids off, little twats.

Dogs often scoot because they need help emptying their anal glands. Google it.
