To be scared by finding this insect in my lounge!

About 1.5cm long. Look at its tail / stinger! What on earth is it?! It flies too. I've never seen anything like it in all my years.
I can't stop scratching just thinking of it.
Excuse the pic, I caught it in the nearest jar which is a bit grubby.

Move out!!!!!!!!!!!Now!!!!!!!!!!!!

RubySparks · 13/05/2017 15:26

Could it be some kind of parasitic wasp? So an egg laying tube not a stinger. Like this - www.birdguides.com/webzine/article.asp?print=1&a=2982

statetrooperstacey · 13/05/2017 15:27

Ohh I've seen these. They nest im afraid if you have found even one you will have a huge nest in the wall somewhere.

statetrooperstacey · 13/05/2017 15:27

Not reallyGrin

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 13/05/2017 15:28

It could be a parasitic wasp and that "stinger" part is its egg laying tube

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 13/05/2017 15:28

Cross post with Ruby!

Channellingmyinnerfeline · 13/05/2017 15:28

MissionItsPossible · 13/05/2017 15:29

I have absolutely no idea what that is. Kill it! Or if you're channeling your inner feline, torment it, play with it, kill it and then present it!

Reow · 13/05/2017 15:30

Oh my god, burn your house down NOW!

statetrooperstacey · 13/05/2017 15:31

SorryFlowers
Is it a horsefly?

CatThiefKeith · 13/05/2017 15:32

Have your dc been playing Jumanji?

dotdotdotmustdash · 13/05/2017 15:34

Maybe a Wood Wasp?

Channellingmyinnerfeline · 13/05/2017 15:40

Doesn't look like a horse fly. Not stripey for a wood wasp.
Urgh some kind of wasp. Parasitic... what on earth would it host in...?! ShockConfused

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 13/05/2017 15:42

Might be a spider wasp.
Won't hurt you - unless you happen to be a spider? If you are then run fast and far away on all 8 of your legs!!!

Channellingmyinnerfeline · 13/05/2017 15:45

Doesn't look like spider wasps have the pointy bum thing.

OP posts:
Reow · 13/05/2017 15:46

Have you not smashed it with a shoe yet?

That's worthy of a lighter and hairspray.

Stargirl82 · 13/05/2017 15:46

I'm telling you now, if you don't like this, then do NOT watch Stung. Awful scary film that I've since dreamt about. Shudder

lamborghinicountach · 13/05/2017 15:59

It's an ichneumon wasp and won't hurt you. They lay eggs in wood through the long thing 😀

I think its also called a gall wasp - look terrifying but harmless.

phlebasconsidered · 13/05/2017 16:14

It's an icheumen wasp. Not really a wasp. It stings other insects. It's totally harmless to humans.

dontbesillyhenry · 13/05/2017 21:38

It's a wood wasp. Totally harmless but they make a very annoying loud noise like a toy windmill

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 13/05/2017 21:40

Gall wasp, it is harmless.

user1493759849 · 13/05/2017 21:56

Can't say I have seen one of them before.

TheSultanofPingu · 13/05/2017 22:15

I think I've seen one of those before.
