OK - I live in the US, so can get a GP appt. tomorrow.

But I've just found a Bartholin cyst. Literally, at lunch time I was fine. Now, 6 hours later, I have a grape sized lump that is hugely painful.

I'm a little concerned that it's appeared so rapidly. Also, next Sunday (21st) I have to go on a school trip to Florida where I'll be getting in & out of the (shark infested) waters, supervising kids, no free time or privacy at all for 5 days. It's full on with snorkelling, kayaking, boat trips etc. so wearing a swimsuit the whole time, no chance of some discreet padding to catch any oozing.

I just want to go to the GP tomorrow & get the thing nuked (or whatever the medical term is) as I just cannot bail on the school trip (I'm also acting as chaperone for DD, who is on the spectrum and needs extra care) and I'm quite worried about how this thing has just appeared out of nowhere.

So, I promise full disclosure on any sporn, but AIBU to just go straight to a GP instead of trying to fix this at home first?

Oooof! Yep, but what do you think the GP will do? Try a very hot flannel on it, and soaking in a salt bath. Has it got a head on it?

Go to GP, they hurt like fuck to squeeze yourself (I was 9 months from initial grape to surgery). The second one I had for 10 days before I spent several days in hospital with sepsis, nearly dying in the process.
I found the start of another one a month ago, fortunately it's still barely noticeable, I'm keeping a very close eye-any increase I will be at the doctors.
Take it very seriously.

Can't imagine how I'm going to be able to see it, even using mirrors & contortion. It feels very 'in there' rather than on the surface. In fact, I can kind of feel it aching from behind my butt, not just in my foof, as if it's really deep, as if I'd ridden a bike for the first time in 10 years and got a bruised arse.

There will be no video footage. But should it get as far as any drainage etc I promise full disclosure.

I did try squeezing it, just to get the measure of the thing, but just touching it is awful.

I'm gonna get the ONE doctor that no-one else wants who says "it could be cancer" and refers me to the hospital so that I have to wait days/weeks, aren't I?

I want a medical person with a sharp implement and some good anesthetic NOW!!

Yeah, I know they can be serious - and the suddenness of it is alarming. Either I've somehow had this buried deep and not known, or it is literally going from nothing to grape size in just a few hours - which makes me wonder how big it'll be by the morning.

It's my birthday tomorrow. I'm a real sporner, but this isn't a gift I wanted.

OK - off for a hot, hot bath.

YANBU, but soak it or put mag sulphate or a hot flannel on it to draw it out first - just so that if they suggest those things you can say 'already done'.

If it's actually painful may be infected ( an abscess rather than a cyst). Do you feel unwell?
I'm unclear if you are in UK or US now. In UK you can go to a walk in Centre for a sit and wait appointment at any time. If you are unwell with a temperature and this lump us painful and is pointing ( head on it) with red swollen area around it, you should go immediately to A and E.

How do you know it's Bartholin? Have you self diagnosed this? I had GA and an overnight stay to have mine removed (UK).

I live in the US so have full medical insurance. It is exactly where a B cust would be. It's about half an inch wide and stands out about a quarter inch

Ow! Had a massive long hot bath (DH now a bit put out that dinner hasn't happened yet) and a bit of a prod. OW!

It is rock hard, no head, the bath made no difference.

I've sent DH for Chinese and intend to drink champagne tonight. I may be on anti-B's tomorrow.

When I worked in Gynae we would admit a patient directly to the day ward with these, with same day op for drainage and marsupialisation, it just took a quick phone call from the GP to the gynae SHO on call. I'm in NI though, not sure what is done in other areas

In U.K. I got sent straight to a and e with mine (painful started growing despite having a non painful small one for years) the gp rang through so that when I arrived at a and e they were waiting for me with a wheelchair !' And took me straight to gynae (though didn't get op till the next day - with GA) also had endless medical students round for a look !! This is going back 15 years so don't know if treatments changed much
Recovery was really minimal I was up and about the next day

Get to GP! I went early with one (self diagnosed and doc confirmed) said we'd caught it early enough and gave me tablets. It later burst on its own and wasn't painful

So, I'm now waiting for the doctor's to open.

I don't know if it's grown overnight as it is so sore I cannot touch it.

All week I've been feeling a bit 'off' and suddenly getting really hot & sweaty. I put it down to menopause, but have been thinking it's how I felt when I had appendicitis but didn't know it, as if I was fighting off an infection and feeling weird.

I went to gp with mine and was admitted and it removed on the same day. Apparently they don't like them bursting.

Not sure if US will sort it out at GP due to different set up.

Just phoned doctors - there's a big conference on and only one, male doctor with no free spaces.

My choices are: urgent care. Last time I went to my nearest one there was a 2 hour wait.
OR - a wolk-in centre that opens at 11, but linked to my doctor's so they have all my medical records & could admit me.

I think I'd rather wait a few hours and be seen quickly. It's also right by a big posh mall so I can get some retail therapy before going.
