KLAXON!!! AIBU to go to GP

OK - I live in the US, so can get a GP appt. tomorrow.

But I've just found a Bartholin cyst. Literally, at lunch time I was fine. Now, 6 hours later, I have a grape sized lump that is hugely painful.

I'm a little concerned that it's appeared so rapidly. Also, next Sunday (21st) I have to go on a school trip to Florida where I'll be getting in & out of the (shark infested) waters, supervising kids, no free time or privacy at all for 5 days. It's full on with snorkelling, kayaking, boat trips etc. so wearing a swimsuit the whole time, no chance of some discreet padding to catch any oozing.

I just want to go to the GP tomorrow & get the thing nuked (or whatever the medical term is) as I just cannot bail on the school trip (I'm also acting as chaperone for DD, who is on the spectrum and needs extra care) and I'm quite worried about how this thing has just appeared out of nowhere.

So, I promise full disclosure on any sporn, but AIBU to just go straight to a GP instead of trying to fix this at home first?

I would wait and go to the one by your normal Drs. Have fun shopping :)

Update. Currently flat on my back while the doc has go eat looking for anesthetic cream. It has started draining and she is going to pop it. I haven't seen what is come ng out but her first squeeze made me Yelp with pain.

Gone looking. Nothing to do with eating.

Good luck op. You've done exactly the right thing in getting it looked at.

OK - I know this should be in sporner corner, but last night I needed immediate support, so went for AIBU.

SO glad I went to the doctor today - the relief is immense, although I'm not exactly comfortable right now.

Anyway, it seemed like everyone and their mother wanted a look up my foof. At one point there was a flashlight focused on my fanjo, with three doctors peering up there. The last time it has that much attention I was in labor.

The cyst was 'quite a size' and they, too were concerned about how rapidly it appeared. The worst bit was the anesthetic - I think it was an injection and if felt like someone was sticking a needle in me. After that it was numb but I could feel the prodding. Then she lanced it and there were several minutes of squeezing. Sadly, no sound effects, but I suspect she was enjoying it as she kept saying how much stuff there was and telling me there was a lot of blood and pus. Even with two people catching the gunk, some of it managed to leak out onto the table thing I was lying on.

It is now packed, and I have to go back onMonday to check it's staying clean. I also have anti-biotics to stop any further infection.

I have one of those HUGE pads that you wear after childbirth to catch any further dribbling, and I can only sit on my butt-cheek, but this is so much better than before.

I was commended for taking the hot baths - so well done MN for giving the right advice. I did not disclose that I knew all about them from reading things on here.

A haiku to mark the occasion:

fanjo of fire
thank God for out of hours
and MN vipers

I'm pretty sure 'nuked' is medical terminology as my GP used it in my presence. As in 'That's so near your eye so we can't just nuke it' Grin about a very obvious skin tag that I no longer have.

Anyway, I am very glad to see you've been sorted. I had one of those at a different time. I can still recall the immense relief when it popped. I did spend a lot of time in the bath that week - fortunately I had no school trip to attend.

ZogsAnon · 13/05/2017 22:02

You should report this for sporners corner, this post is a thing of beauty!

paxillin · 13/05/2017 22:05

Agreed. You'll be an instant hit in the sporner corner.

feeona123 · 13/05/2017 23:22

I posted about one of these a while ago. Mine was only pea size but luckily it popped by itself just before I went to the docs!

BankWadger · 13/05/2017 23:38

Great bed time story. Thanks OP Grin

fannydaggerz · 13/05/2017 23:42

Epsom salts in the bath will work wonders on this.
