I know, his stupidity is astounding. He's a complete psychopath but a fair number of politicians has some sociopathic traits. What really shocks me is how someone so utterly dim who can't string a sentence together can fool people into voting for him as President.
He didn't fool people. They fooled themselves. They could not believe anyone could be as dumb, fascist and self absorbed as Trump is. They all convinced themselves it was this amazing act he out on to get the rightwing vote. They convinced themselves that once he got in power he would reveal his true reasonable self, because he must be reasonable as nobody that crazy could really ever become president. The media, the GOP, everyone who voted for him and plenty who didn't wrote an internal monologue for Trump that reflected their own desires and lack of belief that he could possibly just be exactly as he seemed all along.
It is only now that we have Colbert openly saying that Trump is in fact exactly what he is. In a way he is the most honest politician in history in that he never put on an act, it was everyone else that assumed it was an act. If everyone had taken him at face value they would not have voted for him.
I see the same thing happening with May. There is lots of talk about how she is just acting all crazy right-wing to keep the kippers happy. That once she has a majority she will suddenly transform into a liberal, reasonable person and pursue a soft brexit with open and honest negotiations. We must learn from Trump. We must take her exactly as she presents herself to be and not place any imagined veneer of reasonableness to her or we will end up finding what we got was exactly what we voted for.
