Is this too big? Just right? Not enough? Interested in opinions!

It looks like more than my 2 would eat.

But its really difficult to say 'too much'. I am assuming thats a small kids plate.

Would also depend on what else they eat during the day. My ds had really small meals, but preffered small things but often. An apple, banana etc.

Believeitornot · 07/05/2017 08:51

No idea. It depends on their appetite. My ds would probably have eaten most of it (although I'd have had less potato and peas) and my dd would have had hardly any.

allthatnonsense · 07/05/2017 08:51

I looks like a reasonable amount to offer. My toddler wouldn't eat that much, but I always offer her a decent sized portion.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 07/05/2017 08:51

I don't think my 18 month old would eat quite that much, and he's on about 95th centile. He would probably eat all the peas, about how the mash and maybe 3 or 4 pieces of the fish fingers.

donajimena · 07/05/2017 08:52

How many fish fingers are there?

elQuintoConyo · 07/05/2017 08:52

My 15mo ate until he was full. I'm not sure he'd have cleared that plate, is it a child-sized plate?

Love the cutlery Grin

ShowMePotatoSalad · 07/05/2017 08:52

But as another PP said, I would most likely offer that much anyway.

Wando1986 · 07/05/2017 08:56

Too much. Halve it.

Camomila · 07/05/2017 08:57

My 13month old wouldn't eat all that, maybe half? But I've known plenty of c15 month olds that would (used to work in a nursery, looks about the same size as a toddler room portion if you are using a small plate)

ParadiseLaundry · 07/05/2017 08:58

My DS who's 17 months would eat most of that or maybe more on an average day

Pepperedpig · 07/05/2017 08:59

My 20 month would probably eat a little but less mash and peas.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 07/05/2017 09:00

My DD has always eaten like a horse but her cousin who's the same age will eat a few mouthfuls. You know your child (and the size of the plate in the photo)

theSnuffster · 07/05/2017 09:01

I work in a nursery and 15 month olds are given smaller portions than that- probably about half that amount?

My 4 year old would eat a portion that size or slightly bigger.

DerekDoodles · 07/05/2017 09:01

It's a kids small sized plate, it's 2 fish fingers, and one small sweet potato mashed. He cleared the plate with it last night! But hadn't eaten a lot for lunch. And other times won't entertain anything. I was just interested as can never really tell what is a normal portion.

Pepperedpig · 07/05/2017 09:03

I only give mine one fish finger.

TFPsa · 07/05/2017 09:04

It's a fair bit more than most kids of that age wouId eat but not an insane amount.

InDubiousBattle · 07/05/2017 09:04

That's what I would give my two (3.5 years and 21 months). Sometimes they eat it all, sometimes only a little of it depending on their appetite on a particular day.

Designerenvy · 07/05/2017 09:05

Maybe a bit too much mash ?. But rest seems fine I think.

Heirhelp · 07/05/2017 09:07

My 12 month old would happily eat that for lunch but may then just have a yoghurt for dinner. You need to look at food over a few days and if you are concerned get your little on weighed.

MoreProseccoNow · 07/05/2017 09:07

Children self-regulate until the age of 2ish, so don't worry.

HaPPy8 · 07/05/2017 09:09

Its fine. As long as you don't force them to eat when they have had enough, its fine.

finx14 · 07/05/2017 09:11

My 17 YEAR old wouldn't eat that much :) but kids are all different with varying appetites. If they don't eat it and it's wasted put out less next time x

CuppaSarah · 07/05/2017 09:18

As long as they aren't the sort to keep eating after they're full it's fine. I give my 4 year old an 17 month old about that much and neither ever clears their plate completley.

Purpledaffodils · 07/05/2017 09:20

It looks a similar size to the portions I offer my 2 and 4 year old. They would very rarely eat it all though so it's probably too much but they aren't pressured to finish it.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 07/05/2017 09:21

That's huge.
