To consider making DH a dishwasher chart?

DH is a wonderful husband and father, and by all accounts an intelligent grown man with two masters degrees and a sensible job.

BUT oh my goodness he is just incapable of remembering how to correctly load the dishwasher! It's carnage. I'm talking long knives with the cutlery, big plates where the short should be, cups mixed with bowls, the lot.

I've explained so often where things should go and have joked I will make him a chart.

WIBU to make him one?!

You could be talking about my husband!

Who actually puts a dinner plate flat on the top rack, or diagonally across the space they should go so that you can only fit one plate in, rather than six!

It seems to be a universal problem. I regularly have to soak the glasses as he puts weetabix bowls over them so all the bits get welded on the glass. I am training all my children exactly what to do. He was ruined by his mother, but then again we gav

Make him a chart on household chores if you'd like one in return.

We have the rule that if you start it, you finish it. So if you load the dishwasher so badly that you can't get all the dishes in, you have to hand wash the rest. Also person who loads must unload, as I can't be dealing with re washing everything because other person hasn't rinsed or has nested spoons etc. it's improved dh's methods no end as he now has to deal with the consequences of going a crsp job.

Argh Rum that is giving me the rage just looking at it. The new house doesn't have a dishwasher yet and dp is even worse with hand washing. He seems to think the back of plates are self-cleaning so they all had slimy food on them when I want to use them

DH always sulks and says that most women would be grateful their husbands loaded it, even if it it's wrong.

My dh thinks I don't load the dishwasher properly. However, I load it, and if he doesn't like it he can do it himself. Note: things get cleaned the way I load, and no damage is done.

I regard this as being largely like people who have views on how you peg washing out tbh

I don't mind how it is loaded as long as it comes out clean. Sadly when you put three plates in the space for one (whilst another three are diagonal taking six spaces) they don't get clean. I have tried explaining that the wash heads need to be able to see all the surfaces, but it makes no difference. Same with hanging out washing - hang it out 'properly' it will dry and there won't be too many creases. Scrunch it in a ball and squeeze it next to four other things and it will be a mouldy, creased mess.

I don't think they need a chart - they need a boot camp.

My dh is filling the dishwasher to the point of no return. I like to put it on every night even if nearly full. Now dc are in college he tries to stretch it even further. I have to sneak it on when he is not looking. He fills well as he is trying to beat the world record of what will fit in!

I think you are all very lucky to have dishwashers! I was thinking today about how many times I wash up every day - must be at least 5 x most days (3 kids). Woe is me!

I'm glad to see it's not just me (though also gutted for those of you who are dealing with similar baffling dishwasher set ups - commiserations)!

Opposite problem in our house. My DH is capable of a full 48 hour sulk if I put a teaspoon in with the dessert spoons.

Everything comes out clean the way I do it (and I wouldn't dream of creating the carnage in the photo upthread!)

If my DH made me a chart I would roll it up and insert it somewhere (clue: it wouldn't be in with the dessert spoons).

I have an incredibly intelligent husband who cannot understand, after a gazillion explanations, that if you load wine glasses stems down they just fill with water.

We have a shelf on the right - this fits shorter cups or glasses under -

DH starts from the left and fills 3 rows so you can't get anything under the shelf part unless to re-arrange the whole thing!!

Bloody annoying!

I have the opposite problem. DP washes everything so thoroughly before he puts it in that he may as well just put it in the cupboard. Then he stacks, restacks, shifts everything for optimal stackage.

When the dishwasher is finally finished washing he takes a tea towel and thoroughly dries everything, even though the dishwasher already did that.

The whole process takes about 3 hours (not including actual dishwasher washing time). It makes me so angry frustrated to watch! The worst part is when he tries to correct me...
