Posting for traffic - 14 month old terrible nappy rash

He has caught me off guard today with lots and lots of splatty poos. We are on holiday and have been out and busy - the poos also don't bloody smell!

This afternoon his bum looked sore after I found a poo that had been left too long. Changed him and put on lots of nappy cream. Have gone to do his nappy for bed and there's another poo which has made the already sore bum horrendously sore.

I've bathed it and tried to give him some air. I've put yellow cream on it as that was the best cream I found with DS2. Anything else I can do before bed/tomorrow?

Are they disposable nappies? If so putting loads of bum cream on can stop the nappies absorbing very well so wee will stay on skin making rash worse.

Use a very thin layer.

I used Camomile Tea. Sounds weird but worked really well for my DC's. I used to put the tea bags in a bath and remove them just before the kids went in.
You can also make up a small bowl of the tea, leave it to cool and then just dab it on when changing.
I hope it settles down soon x

Yes disposable nappies and I did think about the wee thing. I've brought him downstairs to have some nappy free time in the kitchen to try and get some air to it. I feel so awful although he is fine in himself so that's one good thing.

Have you got any hydrocortisone cream? I'd put a thin layer on.

Can't use it regularly in the nappy area but it's what my GP prescribed for bad nappy rash.

Bathe with warm water in he bath. Dry well after each change and lots of bum cream the same thing has happened here a few times it will get better.

My advice? No nappy tonight. He can sleep on a couple of towels.

Make a small bowl of cooled boiled water with a big heaped teaspoon of bi-carb stirred into it.

Wipe/dab his bottom with this using cotton wool and let it air dry. Pat on bepanthan and then a layer of sudocream over that.

Use only the bi-carb water with clean cotton wool for cleaning and air dry the skin each time plus the cream for the next couple of days.

My DD had this recently and the nurse gave us canestan cream. Use twice a day as well as bepanthan for daytime nappies. Use metanium mixed with sudo cream for night time nappies.

Keep going with thin layers of the metanium.i know it's terrifying to put him to sleep sans nappy but it's the best thing if you haven't got a cloth nappy with you. I agree pop him on towels. He will be okay. X

Orabase mixed with Vaseline, it's a magic cure for nappy rash!! It's what they use in hospitals here to treat it, mix 1 part orabase to 3 parts Vaseline and apply all over the nappy area

I did a product test for the Water Wipes and they were great at minimising nappy rash, I usually use Huggies Pure wipes thinking they must be pretty neutral with a name like that but whenever dd2 did a runny poo that caused red skin on her bum the wipes must've been irritating it, at times it got so bad her skin broke and took a good week to clear up despite using prescribed rash cream.
The water wipes are about 4x the price so I still use the Huggies for the majority of poos but if she gets the runs for any reason I clean her up with the water wipes and haven't had a bout of bad nappy rash since.

If the rash is in creases of groin then might be fungal. Canestan would help. If not in groin then metanium with nappy off.

I have no idea who discovered this,allergies allowing, but it worked wonders for my DCs' really red and sore bums, egg white applied to the area after cleansing and nappy change.

You can use the yolks to make mayonnaise Grin

If your child's allergic to eggs it's a no go, obviously.

Egg white believer over here. As a barrier. My friend whisks hers before applying to the area. I was nervous at first. But after horrific rashes that tool weeks to clear, this was a much needed help

Just to update, we got back yesterday, I've been trying to give him as much nappy free time as I can. He pooed over his foot and on the kitchen floor this morning and then proceeded to lick his fingers after he'd put it in the poo Envy. So nappy free time has its problems 😜

It looks dry now but still some blistered areas that are trying to heal. I'm going out today to get more yellow cream and I might try that egg white trick later (got to buy eggs first!). He seems pretty happy in himself so I don't think it's causing him pain.

I'd definitely consider thrush if it's blistered.
