As the armada appears in waters nowhere near where it was said to be, Trump blusters on in his usual dignified, courtly manner. Easter weekend had us worried about nuclear strikes; DT put a fair bit of work into his golf swing. Business as usual! Carry on, everyone!

I've somehow missed this business of a Chaffetz/Cumming demand letter.

Could some kind person link or explain again, please?

Another bizarre article from the Sunday Times about plans for the state visit.

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/plans-to-keep-trump-from-stairs-7z76dj0gn?CMP=Sprkr--Editorial--TheTimesandTheSundayTimes--Politics--Unspecified--Unspecified--Unspecified-_-ACCOUNT_TYPE&linkId=36796082

Officials planning Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain have discussed ways of keeping the US president away from stairs after reading reports that he has a phobia of steps and slopes.
Planners want to stage events on the ground floor of buildings, and design routes for Trump that minimise his use of staircases. The president is due to visit Britain in October, where he will be honoured with a state dinner at Buckingham Palace and a trip to the Queen’s Scottish retreat Balmoral.
But a senior figure in Whitehall revealed he had attended meetings where Trump’s dislike of stairs was raised after the president grasped Theresa May’s hand on a ramp during her visit to the White House in January.

Trump is a self-confessed “germaphobe” who, aides say, does not like using handrails or shaking hands. The Washington Post also reported he avoids stairs. Fear of stairs is a condition called “bathophobia”.

The official said: “I’ve heard this discussed in meetings about the state visit. People want everything to go smoothly. Trump won’t be able to avoid the stairs at the palace but they can plan things to minimise it.”
In 2014 Trump tweeted criticism of Barack Obama for running down Air Force One’s stairs. “Do not fall,” he wrote.

France elections: Macron-Le Pen through to run-off, projections say

It's based on projections so not sure why everyone is so relieved - surely polls have been notoriously wrong in the last few years?

GingerIvy · 23/04/2017 19:52

Predictions are that in a run off, it will be Macron at about 60-odd percent and Le Pen with 30-odd percent. Here's hoping.

Pence is very complicit in #Trumprussia There is a reason Putin made sure Manafort chose him as VP. The VP selection was a huge distraction

OK, so that's Chaffetz joining forces with a Democrat (Cumming) and niggling 45 for details of his accounting wrt payments from foreign govts to Trump organisations. Right down to whether 45 will claim tax relief.

That's a shrewd move, as obviously any genuine payments of profits to the Treasury will generate those details. If 45 can't produce them... then he hasn't genuinely paid profits to the Treasury.

Interesting that it's Chaffetz picking this fight, after his previous apparent lack of interest in 45's financial ethics.

cozietoesie · 23/04/2017 20:12

Was this before or after he resigned?

GingerIvy · 23/04/2017 20:21

I can only imagine that Le Pen winning in France in the run off would have even more impact than Trump, as it would directly effect the EU.
