As the armada appears in waters nowhere near where it was said to be, Trump blusters on in his usual dignified, courtly manner. Easter weekend had us worried about nuclear strikes; DT put a fair bit of work into his golf swing. Business as usual! Carry on, everyone!

I think historically grandparents' wealth was at least as important as parents' wealth - for exactly the reason you give of needing the money in time for setting up a house. And of course for access to the right sort of education, which acted as a gatekeeper to high-earning professions and to making the right networks.

Sorry, that's a bit of a derail. But it does throw a harsh light on the rhetoric that
"hard-work = financial success".

It's increasingly untrue in the UK, and continuing reliance by any political party on this rhetoric will make them vulnerable.

It just means the divide between rich and poor will continue to get bigger.

I don't know if they would be capable of hitting a ship. And, even so, I think it's more bravado than an actual threat.

And I'm sure if LePen wins we'll see plenty of self-congratulatory tweets (as I'm sure he'll see his bigly win as the reason why she won) and tweets about how her victory is proof that his agenda is the right one.

You know, I've just noticed that my auto-correct no longer tries to correct the word 'bigly'. I guess because I've used it so much it's added it to my vocabulary memory. But then you'd think it would follow that it would not longer try to correct the words 'fucking', 'arsehole', and 'wanker'.....at least in these threads.
