.... i.e. 40 in a 60, when there is no good reason to?

It just means idiots (not me I hasten to add, I wait behind the slow person if there isn't a safe opportunity to overtake) end up overtaking in stupid places, such as approaching bends etc.

Also these people tend to not slow down when they reach 30 zones. It's annoying.

I want to stab them...it is my pet hate.SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying.
Should be an offense

Blondilocks · 09/03/2007 22:35

It would be good to have a minimum speed limit.

Although I understand people driving slowly in bad weather!

my mum has never been involved in a road accident.

I know it's a joke, but she really has seen several in her rear view mirror.

She drives at about 23 mph.

Everywhere.

misdee · 09/03/2007 22:37

oh god i hate this. there is a good stretch of road near me, great visablility, nohouses national speed limit. people go 35-40 down there and its very annoying!

mosschops30 · 09/03/2007 22:38

people can actually be pulled for driving like that, you should drive the speed limit if conditions allow.

themoon66 · 09/03/2007 22:39

I get sooooo bored sitting behind them - dangerous because I find myself nodding off to sleep!

ImaWurzel · 09/03/2007 22:39

Hate hate hate it. Winds me up a treat! I don't sit on their rear or anything (DH does) just glare when i get a chance to overtake. Really is so annoying. Like ya say when they do 40 in a 60 or such like.

CantSlimWontSlim · 09/03/2007 22:40

It's very annoying unless it's me doing it because I'm aimlessly driving around so that dd can have a nap in the back .

chipkid · 09/03/2007 22:40

it may be a 75 year old woman. It may be your mother or grandmother! that is what I always think when I am ready to explode!

mosschops30 · 09/03/2007 22:45

i dont care if its my mother or grandmother (but not likely as shes dead) if you cant drive properly then you shouldnt be driving simple as that, you are likely to cause an accident like old people who drive 40mph on a motorway and you nearly go up their arse

hillary · 09/03/2007 22:47

They could be done for curb crawling

Blondilocks · 09/03/2007 22:48

I just think it's as dangerous as driving fast. In some countries there are minimum speed limits.

I live in a rural area, so on narrow twisty country roads lots of sensible people drive slower than the limit which is fine - they have a good reason to drive slowly. It's on the wider, too bendy to overtake safely, but not too bendy as to warrant being really slow roads where it is a pain.

Oh I SO SO SO hate this!!

Especially when they wait at a junction until you are almost about to pass, then pull out in front of you so you have to slam on your brakes, then proceed to trail along at 18mph in front of you...

Oh if I had a pellet gun I couldn't be held responsible for my actions

fryalot · 09/03/2007 22:51

fwiw - it's equally frustrating being INSIDE the car with them.

You know that they would probably crash and inflict serious damage on you and your family if you gave in to your instincts and yelled

"Put your foot on the fing accelerator before I fing drag you out of this b*d car and throw away your by keys"

mother would not take kindly to that.

BadHair · 09/03/2007 22:52

As my driving instructor used to say, "It's a speed LIMIT, not a target".
Very annoying though and it does make you want to take risks to overtake excessively slow drivers (who are usually old men in hats, I find).

hillary · 09/03/2007 22:53

I also hate it when you're going down the road with a trail of cars behind you at full speed and the idiot in front stops in the busy road to let someone out!! just out of a side road! GRRRRR....

mosschops30 · 09/03/2007 22:53

yes bad hair, hats and micras

(apologies to mn micra drivers

My god, are you all my husband???

I seem to recall though that you can be done for driving without due care and attention for driving excessively slowly.

I really don't get wound up about it though and think truly patience is really a virtue. And there's nothing worse than being a passenger in a car with someone who's blowing their top and generally getting wound up.

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:03

Or how about people who drive at 30mph on 60 roads at night, then SLAM on the breaks when someone is coming towards them on the other side of the road...

If they can't see properly - THEY SHOULDN'T BE FLAMIN WELL DRIVING!!!!!

I applaud my dad, who gave up his licence at 64 because he felt his eyesight wasn't at a standard to be able to safely drive. I really respect him for that.

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:04

errm brakes, obviously..

Oh I get lots of that on the road I drive home, main road but country, get people going slow already then slow even more every time a car comes towards them. I think it does show a lack of driving ability and confidence.

Mind you DH thinks the answer is to drive as close as he can so he has to slam the brakes on every time they do.

I take the mature approach and stay well back and let out a big sigh of relief as I turn off for my village and speed up again.

Chandra · 09/03/2007 23:11

I think the problem in this country is not lack of proper roads but stupid slow people blocking them up. I think there should be a minimum speed limit. It is not fair that so man y people get late just because someone decided to take a motorised stroll.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/03/2007 23:12

Not unreasonable at all

Bet it was a nissan micra driver.....
