to get annoyed with people who drive excessively slowly....

.... i.e. 40 in a 60, when there is no good reason to?

It just means idiots (not me I hasten to add, I wait behind the slow person if there isn't a safe opportunity to overtake) end up overtaking in stupid places, such as approaching bends etc.

Also these people tend to not slow down when they reach 30 zones. It's annoying.

Don't even get me started on caravans . I don't mind tractors as they have a purpose and are generaly going as fast as they can and they do often pull over to let cars pass.

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:18

And people who sit right up your backside for no apparent reason, making you have to break suddenly to give them a fright...

I really shouldn't drive - too many issues.

And drivers who pull their seats so close to the dashboard that their faces are pressed to the windscreen - why? Ok, this doesn't actually affect me, but it does bug me.

TheArmadillo · 09/03/2007 23:19

not unreasonable at all. I seem to get stuck behind the ones that also randomly slam on their brakes every few minutes and seem to be unaware of any other traffic on the road - pulling out randomly and similar.

I thought you could get prosecuted for driving too slowly too Peaches

3andnomore · 09/03/2007 23:24

Blondilocks...funny you should say that... it's something I also notice, those that go slow where they could go faster and are allowed too tend to NOT slow down in 30 or less zones...

JanH · 09/03/2007 23:28

I have to drive half-an-hour on country roads to work on Sunday lunchtimes and if it's a nice day, can you imagine the frustration with the 25mph-nice-Sunday-drive brigade

3andnomore · 09/03/2007 23:28

my turn....well, I am not that bad...but, I am not a confident driver in the dark...and that is a time I will drive slower, I just find driving in teh dark really irritating and confusing....not sure why...also I tend to get blinded so much by people coming towards me, because the idiots can't get their lights set up the right way...
however, you will be pelased to hear that I will only drive in teh dark if it is unavoidable, lol!

JanH · 09/03/2007 23:29

"motorised stroll" Chandra, yes! exactly!

Linnet · 09/03/2007 23:29

Myturn, my car seat is pulled as far forward as it will go because I'm short and I can't reach the pedals if it's not that far forward.

Apologies to any nissan Micra drivers on here but I always find that if I'm stuck behind a slow driver or one who constantly brakes and can't make up their mind where they're going it is always a Micra they are driving.

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:41

If your seat is really far forward why do they have to have the seat back tilted forward too so that they can barely turn the wheel, you see people with their arms bent in and their elbows on the steering wheel, their boobs, nose and whole torso must get in the way. Like this but often even worse Stretch those arms out .

BadHair · 09/03/2007 23:43

I find it's be-hatted old men in large cars with big engines who tend to drive the slowest. Car is usually of a size and engine capacity that could go at least 3 times as fast. They usually have a permed wife in the passenger seat clutching her handbag on her knee, cushions and tissues in the back window, and a tartan blanket over the back seat.

They're driving so slowly that I actually get a good view of all this as I overtake at a leisurely pace, still well within the speed limit!

You can, I think, be prosecuted for driving too slowly on a motorway, but not on a single or dual carriageway. Police can and will stop you anywhere, though, if they think you're driving excessively slowly, as very low speed is often an indicator of being generally unfit to drive.

handlemecarefully · 09/03/2007 23:45

You're being very reasonable - it is extraordinarily dangerous.

My dad picked me up from hospital and took me home after 2nd child was born (dh couldn't take me home - can't recall why but there was a sound reason) and I remember shrieking like a banshee at dad because he joined the M27 at 30mph!!!!

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:46

Sorry 3andnomore and linnet.. I am a very intolerant driver..

I am only 5ft 1 (and a half - very important that half inch..)

So although my legs are crunched up against the front of the car so that I can reach the pedals, I am practically lying horizontal so as to keep some kind of distance to the windscreen. Don't really know why this is important to me but it is. I may need counselling.

misdee · 09/03/2007 23:46

skribble, if i stretch my arms out my feet wont reach the peddles.

handlemecarefully · 09/03/2007 23:46

Hey nobody has mentioned 4x4 drivers??? - surely they are major offenders since they are generally to blame for everything??

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:50

OOHHH I have un urge to overtake at the slightest hint of a tweedish hat. They are dangerous because they have been driving everyday for years and think they are excellent drivers, they criticise woman drivers attempts at parking then swing into parking spaces at a jaunty angle leaving no room for anyone else to get in or out. Will never attempt to straighten up.

Sorry I was describing my FIL. He honestly thinks he is the best driver out, I learned to drive a little bit more recently and his bad habits are glaringly obvious to me (and everyone else) . He think more about his Revs and his MPG than what is going on around him.

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:52

Surely you can angle the seat back a bit so ther is a litle bit of space between your chin and the sterring wheel .

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:53

Where I live the 4x4 drivers aren't a problem unless they are nervous looking middle aged woman or overy confident older men in tweed hats, but then it doesn't matter as they are just as likely to be driving a volvo estate or a nissan micra.

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:54

Yes misdee - if you lie horizontal in the seat you can see perfectly well through the small section of steering wheel above the dashboard.

That's what i do. And I'm a GREAT driver. Sort yourself out woman!

misdee · 09/03/2007 23:55

hehe

myturn · 09/03/2007 23:55

(Wasn't being sarcastic Skribble - genuinly meant that lol )

Skribble · 09/03/2007 23:57

I hadn't read your post myturn when I suggested angleing it back a bit. Sorry I am completely sarcastic , perhaps blocks on the peddles, anyway as long as you don't drive at 40 in a 60 I won't even notice you .

myturn · 10/03/2007 00:01

rofl

People laugh at me for the way I sit in the car... they think I am going to fall asleep my seat is so low down lol...

Skribble · 10/03/2007 00:06

My BIL is 6'4" and he looks hilarious driving as he has his seat tilted way back, he has no excuse at that height, the passenger seat is always tipped back in sympathy, I feel really silly sitting like that if I get a lift.

myturn · 10/03/2007 00:08

Lol. No he has no excuse. I do... How the heck I ever passed my driving test lying horizontal is beyone me...

(Oh yes, can feel all the dirty minds ticking over now....)

Skribble · 10/03/2007 00:12
Hmm
