Help!

my 4yo dn is staying with us over the Easter break and she's mentioned that daddy can't do her hair like mummy used to (mom recently passed away) I'm not great as I have relatively short hair but really want to do something nice for her over the weekend and hopefully point her daddy (bil) in the right direction

Can any one help with easg styles or good simple tutorials on line?

So sorry for the loss

What about those hairbands that look like real plaits (primark etc have them)

Easy for dad to do just tie up hair and add headband or leave down with one.

Nicpem1982 · 11/04/2017 21:36

Wobbly- thank you thats great for holidays but she won't be allowed them for school and she just really wants lovely hair I think but I'm rubbish

Look for "cute girls hairstyles" on YouTube. They have loads of videos of step by step tutorials for tonnes of hairstyles for children.

Isadora2007 · 11/04/2017 21:37

Oh bless her.
YouTube is really good for these step by step things. Just put "simple hairstyles" in the search.
Dd likes a simple one with mini bunches in bright bobbles -so the sections from centre parting at front to bit above ear... put in bobble above ear ish. Then tie those together at the back making a small pony with another bobble in a colour. Then you can plait or tie rest of hair into it. Or put a ribbon at the top bobble and plait it into the hair.

YouTube is FULL of hair ideas!!!!

Try Cute Girls Hairstyles on YouTube. Well explained and easy hairstyles which look stunning.

There are lots of YouTube tutorials on different hairstyles. I managed to teach myself to French plait the dds' hair.

DeadGood · 11/04/2017 21:39

Hope you guys have a lovely weekend. Flowers

I'm sorry for your loss, it's a lovely idea. A fishtail plait is pretty easy but looks impressive. YouTube easy fishtail plait.

Ime of small girls a good smoothing brush like a shower brush helps me enormously and everything looks neater. Spray conditioner flattens wispy bits down. She may not be allowed them for school but nice grips and bobbles make a big difference.

Nicpem1982 · 11/04/2017 21:47

I will have a go at some you tube searching I have a good brush and water bottle/conditioning spray etc as my dd has her hair done daily (pig tails is my limit she's 2) hopefully I'll be able to do something ok ish

You tube is amazing for this, my kids love it. You could have a fun few hours watching together and experimenting.

Athrawes · 11/04/2017 21:49

Take her to boots and let her choose some nice clips and bobbles. Getting a trim could help her hair look tidy and be a treat experience especially if the hairdresser does her her in a fancy plait.

PovertyJetset · 11/04/2017 21:54

Fish tail plait is dead easy and looks great.

I like two from sections on each side, twisted round and then pinned at the back.

Use a hair donut to make a bun.

High up pony tail, then take a small section, plait and wrap round the bobble to hide the bobble.

French plaits on either side, then joined at the bottom.

Loose plaits on either side then pinned up on top of the head a la Austrian mountain girl.

Lastly- hair chalks? Something fun and cool!

You sound like a lovely aunt, have a lovely time with your DN.

CMOTDibbler · 11/04/2017 22:06

Theres a guy on youtube called something like 'dads can do hair too' who does tutorials that your bil might want to check out

user1471449040 · 11/04/2017 22:25

check out 'cute girl hairstyles' channel on you tube

use a soft brush (e.g. natural bristles) to pile dry hair together for e.g. high ponytail

but use a spray bottle to dampen hair for any plaits

...I've just recently sorted all this out myself by watching youtube, practising and also asking my hairdresser

Nicpem1982 · 12/04/2017 06:38

Thank you for all of your help!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Agree about trying you tube- I'm never been able to manage a French plait even following the tutorials but I'm no hairdresser. What I do with my dd's though which people always say looks nice is put it into pigtails and then pull those pigtails into one ponytail - so three bobbles, pop a nice clip/bow in front and it looks nice and neat.

Amockingjayhey · 12/04/2017 07:55

So sorry for you loss

What a lovely thought to help her with her hair and her dad too.

I second going to choose some clips. It doesn't need to be super fancy i don't think. Some embellishment and just teaching dad to do plaits and different ponytails with bows / clips etc would help. You could ask her what she wants to try if she has anything specific she wishes she could have and look it up on YouTube together !

tissuesosoft · 12/04/2017 07:57

Flowers so sorry for your loss and how lovely for you to do something fun for your niece.
As well as the YouTube tutorials, maybe your DBiL would be interested in taking a class? I've heard these are really great- www.daddydaughterhairfactory101.com/?m=1

Nicpem1982 · 13/04/2017 19:51

Thank you all got some lovely bobbles and clips today and her own special brush to keep here so tomorrow is the day!

We've had a go at a fish tail pesos today (and did ok) Dutch braid tomorrow apparently

I'm not great with hair, but YouTube and Pinterest have helped me. Here are a few I've done (DD gets me to photograph her hair so she can see what I've done if it isn't a ponytail or plait).

And a few more. DD's favourite is a sock bun. We use DD2's old socks as they are small and DD1 doesn't have all that much hair.
