Help!

my 4yo dn is staying with us over the Easter break and she's mentioned that daddy can't do her hair like mummy used to (mom recently passed away) I'm not great as I have relatively short hair but really want to do something nice for her over the weekend and hopefully point her daddy (bil) in the right direction

Can any one help with easg styles or good simple tutorials on line?

My neice loves princess hair at the moment, so I put curlers in (non heat ones, the kind that can be used with a little leave in conditioner). Get her really fancy pins, hairbands, and she'll feel really special.

Poor little girl, losing her mummy so young. How lovely of you to do this.

Have a look at a waterfall braid or a Dutch plait on YouTube. My DD loves these. I practiced them on her dolls before trying them out for real.

If she wants a bun have a look in your local poundshops. Some of them sometimes have a bun thing which is like two snap bracelets in fabric. You roll the hair up and close the snap thing to get the bun. It can be a bit easier than one of the doughnuts.

Easiest thing ever. Fish tail braid. Looks awesome u can reverse them, have them normal do them "french braid" style..haev her put her head forward look down and braid from the hairline up to where u would.put a pony tail and make it into a bun if u see what i mean???? Fish tail all the way

Great idea, how lovely of you.
What kind of hair does she have?
Wilko sell smaller than normal hair 'donuts' that lets you do a fab Cinderella type ballet bun even if the girl doesn't have masses of hair. For that you also need two hair ties close to her own colour, Scünci are the best for no damage (in Boots).

So you want some of these or similar:

This detangler or similar:

This hair donut or similar:

P.S: I heard some US hair salons do a dad-and-daughter thing where that dads get beer and are thought to do basic hair styles. Did a home version with my DH and now he is better than me at DD's plaits!

I don't have any suggestions but your post made me cry a little I'm very emotional today I think you're so thoughtful and your dn is really lucky to have you in her life.

Nicpem1982 · 14/04/2017 06:41

Thanks everyone!

Dn has masses of long fine hair and it's sort of wavy at the end.

There are masses of tutorials on you tube that we will try out and practice will be me in good stead for when my dd is older.

We shall keep working on it x

It might be heartbreaking, but maybe a little bob. You'll be surprised how quick it'll grow back. I'm thinking of that Disney character with a bob & fringe.

Can you try various hairstyles by an app.

Really for hair long enough, ponytails aren't rocket science.

Nicpem1982 · 14/04/2017 06:57

Fairy - dad won't agree to a shorter style I'd love to cut about 6 inches off it to make it more manageable but he won't and neither would dn she loves her hair so we will work with it.

I can do pony tails and basic plaits but her mom was able to do nicer styles that dn loved and misses

I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your family member. Flowers Your poor little neice and brother-in-law. Can she describe some of the styles she misses? Can you remember them?

Other posters will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction but there's a YouTube series about a dad learning to do his daughter's hair. It might be useful because they will have the same novice start point.
