To ask you if/when your DC's eyes changed colour

Or your own, if you know?

DP has brown eyes and mine are green. Parents also somewhere on the hazel spectrum. Somehow DC seems to have found the odd rogue blue eyed gene on both sides and they are still blue at 18 months. But not a pure blue - sort of green around the pupil.

I've read they can change long after 18 months. DP is adamant they are staying blue by 18 months and I am talking rubbish. When did yours change, if they did, and do you think the eyes in the attached pic will change?

(This is purely because I find family resemblances fascinating - I don't care if they stay blue or end up chocolate brown!)

(You may need to click on the pic - it's cropped but not just to the bridge of the nose!!!)

I have blue eyes and DH has brown. Both of my children were born with blue, but DD's had gone chocolate brown by about 8 months. DS's stayed bright blue until he was about 3, then to my surprise they started to go green. He's 6 now and his eyes are a dark grey-green, which look lovely with his red hair.

booloobalooloo · 27/03/2017 19:35

I'm 29 and my eyes still noticeably change colour...

Catam · 27/03/2017 19:40

Ditto boo mine can vary from sky blue to dark blue. My DS had v fair blue eyes that darkened as he got older, around 3yrs. He also had jet black hair that went white blonde then darkened to dirty blonde.

palebluesky · 27/03/2017 19:43

My brother and mother and grandmother all had dark blue eyes that went green aged 2 and then went greeny grey in their twenties then grey, then faded to a washed out blue. I was looking at a photo the other day and my brother had clear green eyes. Strange how they change! Mine have been dark brown since birth.

OhDearToby · 27/03/2017 19:44

Dd1 was born with very dark blue eyes which had changed to dark brown within a few months and they've been that way ever since.

Dd2 was born with dark blue and they have become grey/blue with flecks of brown. She's 14 months and the change is so gradual it's hard to say if it's stopped.

Waitingonasmile · 27/03/2017 19:46

'My son's eyes changed very early. They began to change slightly from about 8 weeks and by 16 weeks they were completely hazel.

Downwardfacingdog · 27/03/2017 19:47

I think those eyes will go green. I have green eyes my dh has blue eyes. I had 5 blue-eyed DC, but my 8yo DS eyes started to change colour around age three and are now grey/blue/green and look different depending on the light. Mine were the same and got greener and greener the older I got and were properly green with gold flecks by the time I was in my teens.

RebootYourEngine · 27/03/2017 19:47

Ds' have gradually changed over the years, he is a teen now and they went from bright blue to a mix of green/brown/blue.

Sunnydays365 · 27/03/2017 19:47

my daughter had bright blue eyes until she was 3 then they went green.now they are green/grey age 12

Nodowntime · 27/03/2017 19:57

My youngest one had exactly the same colour eyes as in the picture, now at 2.5 they are far lighter, grey blue with specks of greenish. I'm sure they are still changing.

With my other kids and my relatives all of them grey/green /light hazel/light blue and their mixtures seems to have started as darker blue, don't know anyone born with light grey eyes from day one, for instance.

I think those born chocolate brown are least likely to change, or at least not likely to turn cornflower blue!!

With my kids the actual colour seems to have set around age 6, but then the same colour could turn a different shade.

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 27/03/2017 19:58

Dds went from blue to dark chocolate by 5mo. .

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 27/03/2017 20:03

I'm brown, DH blue.

Both DS born with bright blue eyes, one now has darker blue/grey, they changed when he was about 3.

Gillian1980 · 27/03/2017 20:07

I'm blue,dh is brown

Dd was born blue and they've changed very slowly. She's 20m now and they're more or less brown.

GoodGirlGoneWrong · 27/03/2017 20:09

I'm blue/grey eyed DH is hazel/brown

Dc1 was born with bright blue eyes they have gone slightly darker but still very blue and bright.

Dc2 was born with dark blue eyes they changed within 6 weeks to brown (the most stunning shade) and have not changed since.

I'm sure I read somewhere they can and do continue to change during your lifetime...must look that up.

PeridotPeridot · 27/03/2017 20:11

Both Dh and I have near identically coloured eyes - green/hazel.

Ds1 was born with bright blue eyes which quickly changed to the same colour as mine/dh's by about 6 months.

Ds2 was also born with bright blue eyes and they've never changed, now aged 7.

I'm fascinated to see what colour eyes dc3 will have (currently 33 weeks pg) and whether he'll join ds2 in the blue zone or end up like me, Dh and ds1. Or of course he could be dark brown and completely different!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 27/03/2017 20:12

I think my 6 year olds eyes are still changing.
Almost black at birth, very very deep blue. Slowly lightened to pale blue with a faint hazel ring around the pupil by 18 months.
Since then they've kept changing. The hazel ring is more noticeable and the blue went grey, now has flecks of green.
My youngest was born with deep lilac eyes and now they're a strong blue. He's three and I haven't noticed any changes since 6 months old.

My mums eyes were grey throughout her youth, changing to green in later adulthood.

Eminybob · 27/03/2017 20:12

I have brown eyes, dh has blue and ds was born with blue eyes.
They are still blue now at 2.5 years and I definitely don't think they will change as they are exact same shade of blue as dh.

For some reason I always thought that brown was more dominant than blue, so expected ds to have brown eyes, but this obviously isn't the case

BikeRunSki · 27/03/2017 20:12

I have blue eyes
DH has brown eyes

DS was born with "swimming pool" blue eyes and they have stated that way (he is 8.5).
DD was born with very dark coloured eyes. I know all babies are meant to be born with blue eyes, but if hers were blue they were baby! They settled into a grey-green by about 6 months, and now are lovely hazel green/brown rings.

ivykaty44 · 27/03/2017 20:13

Dd1 was 2 years old when her eyes turned from blue to green

Unhairymaclary · 27/03/2017 20:15

I have blue eyes and my DH has brown. DS eyes were an amazing bright blue and gradually got darker. At age 4 they are now greeny grey.

Chinnygirl · 27/03/2017 20:17

I was born with bright blue eyes and the older I get (now 37) the greyer they get.

Porpoiselife · 27/03/2017 20:18

My ds has blue eyes. Both me and his dad have brown. He's 11 now and they're still very blue!

jay55 · 27/03/2017 20:21

Mine were very hazel but the brown flecks have gone and they are mostly green now.

Impresionante · 27/03/2017 20:30

My daughter's went from blue to hazel gradually from about 9 months (on the green side of blue) to 14 months (definitely hazel).
