To ask you if/when your DC's eyes changed colour

Or your own, if you know?

DP has brown eyes and mine are green. Parents also somewhere on the hazel spectrum. Somehow DC seems to have found the odd rogue blue eyed gene on both sides and they are still blue at 18 months. But not a pure blue - sort of green around the pupil.

I've read they can change long after 18 months. DP is adamant they are staying blue by 18 months and I am talking rubbish. When did yours change, if they did, and do you think the eyes in the attached pic will change?

(This is purely because I find family resemblances fascinating - I don't care if they stay blue or end up chocolate brown!)

I have eyes and little like a wolf, dark yellow with green flecks, green outer ring. DHs are hazel/brownish depending on the day. Both DCs were born with mid blue eyes, DSs had changed to grey by around 2.5 and now, at 4, are a rich brown. DD is nearly 3 and I noticed a few days ago that her eyes are just beginning to change now.

Mine were almost turquoise until about 6, when they changed to bright green, then slightly yellowy green, to how they are now in my 20s. I would swear they were browner when I was pregnant too.

RainbowChasing · 27/03/2017 20:44

My dd's eyes finally settled colour at around 2.5/3 years old. They started dark blue, then became a piercing blue, then turquoise blue, then green and lastly greenish grey. They haven't changed for about 9 months now so I guess this will be their colour now.

BertieBotts · 27/03/2017 20:49

Oh ages. I think DS was about 4 or 5 by the time his eyes settled. They are gorgeous now, stormy grey-brown with a hint of green sometimes.

Applebite · 27/03/2017 20:52

Isn't it amazing how different they all are? So much for all the stuff you read online about eye colour being settled by 6 months - hardly any of these were, by the sound of it. Genetics are fascinating!

I have blue eyes exp has green eyes. DD was born with dark blue eyes and they stayed like that until she was about 2. By the time she turned 3 her eyes turned the lovely bright green they are now

Dd was born with blue eyes but they have got gradually darker and are now hazel. (She's 4)

Dh has hazel eyes, mine are dark brown (they were very dark blue when I was born) and ds (20 months)still has bright blue eyes.

Both my mum and dh's mum have brown eyes and both our dad's have blue eyes.

I find it fascinating!

Lingotria · 27/03/2017 21:05

Usually blue, green, or gray eyes can turn brown. Brown eyes don't change just get lighter/darker.

Applebite · 27/03/2017 21:08

Yes, I must say i didn't think brown eyes changed at all? But the only friends' babies I've known who were born with brown eyes have been black or Asian, so I guess you would expect brown eyes.

Although my friend is half Indian and her DS has her skin colouring and hair but his father's blue eyes - he's the most gorgeous child!

Eye colour is fascinating - it's now known to be a lot more complicated than the simple theory about dominant/recessive genes we were all taught at school. It involves 15 or more genes which all have a complex pattern of being switched on or off to create the colour!

GoodEyebrowDay · 27/03/2017 21:13

DD born with almost black eyes. She's 15m now & they're still a very dark brown

fatshitcrazy · 27/03/2017 21:14

I always had blue eyes as a child, in late teens they would get a greyish green tinge sometimes and in my early 20s turned completely green. When I'm tired they go very pale washed out grey/green and other times they are emerald green. My dads eyes change from sky blue to grey quite often! Think we're both weird!

GoodEyebrowDay · 27/03/2017 21:15

Def not Asian but DD born with almost black eyes & a mongolien blue spot! Wondering if there's some unknown heritage

BertieBotts · 27/03/2017 21:15

I think green takes longer. I'm trying to compile a mixture of DS's eyes so you can see the progression but I hardly have any clear pics of him from about 2 to 5! I think they were all on phones that are long gone :(

Wayfarersonbaby · 27/03/2017 21:16

This is a good short explanation:

Whatsername17 · 27/03/2017 21:22

I have green eyes. But, much mum has a photo of me aged 8 with blue eyes.

chocdonutyy · 27/03/2017 21:23

I'm sure dd's changed within days, she was bright blue to start with then went brown very quickly I have dark green eyes, exh has dark brown. Now they are just mid brown almost hazel

PussCatTheGoldfish · 27/03/2017 21:36

Mine, blue to start, hazel by 2, brown now.

Bro dark brown always (same mixed Indian/European heritage as me)

DH always blue/grey depending on what he wears.

DD1 bright blue until 18 months, green until 3.5 now hazel at 7.

DD2 bright blue until 2, then quickly changed and have stayed hazel with a blue outer ring.

I love eyes and the variety of colours they come in!

bruffin · 27/03/2017 21:40

I have brown and dh grey.
Ds were dark blue but changed to dark brown quickly
Dd 19 blue eyes which over the years have got a brown centre and blue/grey outer and dark blue very outer circle.

dimdommilpot · 27/03/2017 21:43

We both have blue, both our parents have blue and both our DDs at 3 and 6 have blue. I dont think theirs will change now.

BertieBotts · 27/03/2017 21:48

Wonder if this comes up big enough to see.
